Pompey Mick Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 I have just received my quote for club insurance for clocks, baskets & equipment from Richard V Wallis and it has risen to £176.65 for 2006 from the 2005 total of £99.75. My Club has not claimed on this insurance and is apparently due to a rating increase and is not negotiable. Have any other Clubs suffered a similar increase? Can anyone recommend another insurer. The clocks are insured for £14500 and the premium is £145, Baskets £1000 premium is £7.50 and Club equipment £500, premium is £6.25
MsPigeon Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Gosh, Our club struggles to make ends meet and still keep members fees low. We don't have any insurance. We also don't have our own trailer anymore, but that is the only thing we ever did insure. I would be curious how many clubs do have insurance.
Guest Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 We don't have any insurance, but I hope the powers that be will insure our new shipping trailer.
Chatrace Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 How many clocks and what kind, thats over $25000 our money
Guest Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 i think it is important that if clocks are kept in club house that they are insured. what ever our insurance comes to we split it between the members, surley it has got to be worth it.
PIGEON_MAN Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 HI MICK,THIS WILL BE THE THIRD SEASON THAT OUR CLUB HAS DEALT WITH R.V.WALLIS THEY WERE RECOMMENDED TO ME BY THE R.P.R.A.WHEN S.AND A. PIGEON SUPPLIES CEASED AS I ALLWAYS DEALT WITH THEM FOR OUR CLOCK INSURANCE,I FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND A COMPANY THAT WOULD INSURE OUR CLOCKS AND I GUESS THIS ONE IS PERHAPS ONE OF ONLY A VERY FEW THAT WILL,I NOTICED LAST YEAR THAT THE PREMIUM WENT UP QUITE A BIT FROM THE FIRST YEAR SO I GUESS WE CAN EXPECT ANOTHER RISE BY WHAT YOU HAVE SAID.I THINK IT WORKED OUT LAST YEAR AT ABOUT £4.25 PER CLOCK BUT I SUPPOSE IF IT WENT TO £5.00 IT WOULDN,T BE TO BAD IF YOUR CLOCK,S WORTH ABOUT 3 OR £400.BE INTERESTED TO SEE IF ANY OTHER CLUB KNOWS OF ANOTHER FIRM THAT WILL INSURE THEM.
Pompey Mick Posted January 12, 2006 Author Report Posted January 12, 2006 As a club that is based in the garden of a Public House in a seperate building we need insurance. We always have a number of Federation crates permanently stored which are our responsibility and we normally have well in excess of 40 clocks in the clock cupboard during the racing season mainly T3 and STB Quartz. Our main fear is fire or theft. We, as a club, realise the necessity of insurance but I was a bit concerned by the 80% price hike, that's why I asked if there are any other Insurers available.
MsPigeon Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Well, I can understand that. Here in the US or at least in our club, clocks are kept by their owners. We meet at the "pigeon building" at our fairgrounds to ships pigeons and our crates are usually stored there except durring the fair. I never thought about something happening to them, hopefully the fairgrounds have insurance. At any rate we could sure use new crates, wouldn't say I would mind if something happened to our old ones. :B : :X ;D
Blue Chequer Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Hi, My club also insure with RV Wallis & Co. and had a massive hike last year in the rate. We too have clocks in a brick building on the allotments. However, I think you are over insured, new T3 clocks are £285 x 40 is £11400. and I don't expect they would pay out the full price. We have 25 baskets which new cost £150 each but some of them are 10 - 15 years old. we had these insured for £3000 which cost £22.50. You don't mention on your posting wether you have Public Liability included. We are covered for £1,000,000 and this cost us £70. We do not insure our cups and trophies and we have no clocks valued over £500. It really hurts to pay this out but it's the way things are going these days. Our members pay £2 per clock towards the insurance. According to my calculations your clocks are valued at £380 each, roughly. Blue Chequer.
Pompey Mick Posted January 15, 2006 Author Report Posted January 15, 2006 It looks like we missed last years hike, perhaps because the insurance is due in January. We have had up to 50 clocks in the past but this included a few old Toulets. I may look at the amount covered for the clocks but it is difficult with members buying extra clocks. With the Classics and Nationals some of the members have three races on one day occasionally. It would seem that this insurance has suffered some hefty payouts and they have revalued the risk assessment. The Club does not have Public Liability Insurance.
Blue Chequer Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Hi Mick, We have just started paying the Public Liability but I have been sorely tempted to take a chance but knowing my luck somebody will walk in and slip on some pigeon muck and make a claim. I see our friends from the States don't insure their clocks but the culture of claiming damages has certainly been inherited from that side of the Atlantic. All the best. Blue Chequer.
PageBoy Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 There are lots of really useful sites with great info on insurance such as this site from only insurance and this site on several different insurance subjects. Hope these help!
