Guest shadow Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 £2,000 birds can breed as much rubbish as a £20 bird also depends on the flyer's management
lawrie Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 if anyone pays over £20 for a bird, there mad!
lawrie Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 if anyone pays over £20 for a bird, there mad! on that note a fancier gave me 10 birds for nothing. all i had to pay was the courier costs. As mentioned before, new fanciers looking for birds shouldn't have to pay for birds.
jimmy white Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 many years ago, whilst working as a t,v aerial rigger, i was doing a job on a farm, i spotted many pigeons in the barn, a pair of rung birds among them,,,,i promptly put the ladders up and rung two young in birds in the nest, after explaining to the farmer , what i was about,, went back 3 weeks later,, there was one yb ready to leave,,,,,,,,,,,,this pigeon topped the mid-lothian fed , then flew 550 miles [back on second day] not on the result ,,, as will be noted in the" scotlands own book" cant remember what year, as a footnote by the editor doing an article on myself ;D, the p,o officer had the reult in the b h w ,, first fed " barnie" [born in a barn] [kind of apt at christmas time ] the next 9 birds were all van this and van that ;D ;D ;D but "barnie" showed them all the road ;D ;D ;D,,,true ;D p.s there is no truth in the rumour ,that the webmaster was seen at this barn with a pair of ladders ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 £2,000 birds can breed as much rubbish as a £20 bird also depends on the flyer's management It all depends on the quality of the bird, your management can be brilliant but if the birds rubbish you got no chance
Guest Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 if anyone pays over £20 for a bird, there mad! Well Lawrie I think if you did a poll on here you might be in a tiny minority having not paid £20+ for a bird

just ask me Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 most of the time u pay what u get all it takes is to do your homework on what the birds are doing i know there are stories of gift birds birds bought for a 10er and all this but look at it this way a man or woman spends years building up there familly weeding out what good or not going to belgium Holland all over the UK to try find the best what they can find they build a successful family and then pll think they should sell birds for 30 pound or something madness why would someone do this come on lads why do pll think our sport has to stay in the dark ages u wouldn't buy a pup off a champion greyhound for little money and don't even start me on horses wy do our sport have to be different yes i would say some birds are over priced cause they are the current trend but some birds are worth there money and the market says what this price is
Guest Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 to add my pennies worth :) these £2,000 pigeons are bought by the big money men, but does it say that the big money men win? the old adage says,, you can buy the pigeon , but you cant buy the fancier,, no one forces anyone to buy, this is completely up to the fancier, and him [or her] alone, and in my opinion , you certainly dont need to pay this amount , to win races,, you can get very cheap,or even gift pigeons , excellent pigeons ,that with the proper management , would knock spots off any fancier who tries to buy success,, you cannot buy success I can vouch for that, where I used to live in Welwyn Garden City there was a lad who used to catch streetpeckers off of the shredded wheat factory, got them transfered bred youngsters of them and the offspring won loads of races for him.
gooner Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 i have kepy pigeons or some type of bird all my life(34 years) firstly with my dad and when i got married i started on my own and personally i have never paid more than £60 for a pigeon. i believe that i have good stockmanship and by pairing the right birds together you will breed winners. When i first moved to norfolk i started racing again and being on a limited income got birds that were free off of fanciers that were packing up for what ever reason, the 1st race i entered i was 1st club (by 87 ypm) and 3 fed 1800 birds and then did not finish out side the top 6 for the rest of the season this was done in a very unfavourable position. I then packed up the birds but started again last year only to move before yb season started, again i got birds from various sources paying no more than £20 a bird, one bird i bred was entered into the fed breeder buyer and was raced by a friend , the said bird winning 1st club, 2nd fed 1st section , 21st open nrcc dunbar my opinion is that you dont need to pay a fortune to breed good birds as i think i have proved with my own birds

mark Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 ANOTHER POINT BEING IF PEOPLE JUST DECIDED THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY THESE MAD PRICES WHERE WOULD ALL THESE BIG GUYS BE thats it,the best way to bring prices down is keep your money in your pocket. they will either lower the price or keep them.
gooner Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 i was in an unfavourable position because i was shortest flyer but last drop because the birds always came up the coast at least that is what i was told but i had my own opinion. my opinion is if the birds are good enough they will win any where
