Bit silly to say dumb animals are "brave"i expect jilly cooper was just hyping up a one of her awful new book she just tried to write,i remember when those types wasted a lot of money on a memorial to animals, how sads that.

Yeah... very poor really because the facts are no where near correct ... 74 Dickens awards for starters I believe .... 53 / 54 to Pigeons. etc. etc. Be more now of course.

But then again any publicity is good I guess.

Mind I was speaking only yesterday to our local vet receptionist regards pigeons.

I asked if they did PDSA - Which I knew they did - they answered Yes. I asked if they did Autopsies ... The answer was Yes.

Seems though that the receptionist and the Vet differed, because he said 'Yes ... but not on pigeons'. Mind it does take 4 - 6 weeks to enrol and become a member. But all in all I believe that the PDSA is a great concern that has helped many animals and thus 'Owners' down on their luck. Must have been countless ops. treatment paid for by this deserving cause.

im not convinced about the PDSA, its ok if you register incase you need them but in most cases when people need help its not there!

My parents, both pensioners had one of there dogs hit by a car about a month ago on a saturday, they took it to there own vet who put it in plaster until they could look at it proporly on the monday. I sugested my parents ring the PDSA, they did to get an answer phone message saying in case of an emergancy ring you local vet and the offices would be open again on monday!

On the monday parents rang the PDSA and were told that they would be eligable for help but needed to register before the dog had its accident!

Great help, i don't think and a vets bill over £1000!

Yep know where your coming from. Been there. Once I spent £140 on a op fon the leg for a Lurcher youngster I had. - Never was the same, and corners were straight lol. But the week after a car clobbered a dog. It didn't sto[p of course, and by law needn't. Though it snarled and tried to bie me, I eventually got it bounded in my jaccket. - Covered in Blood it was no more good.

Any way I took it the vet where I had spent that money... 1970, and that was a lot of dosh - and told him it was my dog, but felt it probably needed to be put down. He agreed and asked for £8! I said I hadn't and that he should put it out of it's misery. He said he would when I gave him £8! I took it to another Vet- had no car and was carrying it - who agreed and put it down. That is the one that does PDSA. The other didn't.

Think as 'm now a pensioner I will apply any way. One never knows if and when it might be handy.

The PDSA are great with Billy's dog, when he was in hospital they paid for all it's treatment for arthritis. He was registered because he has been ill for a long time.

I am sure if you register and qualify then it is a good a service as any other, no doubt there will be the pitfalls

This article is as always not perfect but it highlights the fact that pigeons are not just rats with wings to people other than pigeon fanciers, but a major part of our society :-/
