If you have your race birds motivated enough cant see why you need to use a trapper.

preferable very tame fantail as ganster says , i used to have a tumbler in ybs used to throw it as would fly 15 mins then straight in every time after i threw it up was a cock so was removed.

your first bird home ;D    seriously ,if your birds are confident ,  trusting, and contented , they really should trap ok [one tip is,,never grab a yb on arrival from a race, pick it up gently, otherwise this could make it a bad trapper for all time]  good luck

Once they are racing/training I find they usually trap immediately on return, but there is the odd time when they fart around (must cut down on the beans)
