cokacola Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Hello Can somebody explain pooling for me. I understand that I'm betting whatever money I want on the bird I think might win the race. But say he does win the race, does that mean I keep all the pools from every other member? Or do pools get shared for 1st, 2nd and 3rd? What If I bet all the way along the sheet for 2 pigeons, only one can win, so if it won, would I keep my pools for the other pigeon, or would I lose these because that pigeon did not win the race? Confused lol Tariq.
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It depends how the pools are dhared - in our club - not everybody pools so 5p pool, 10p and 20p are shared 50% 30% 20% 30p - 50p - £1 and £5 is the first bird clocked in that pool takes all so for instance if the 1st bird in the club is only pooled to 5p - he takes 50% of that pool if the 2nd bird clocked is pooled to 20p he takes 30% of 5p pool - 50% of 10p pool and 50% of 20p pool
cokacola Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 Thanks REDCHEQHEN I wonder if my club runs by a similar system...
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Have you got a copy of the result sheet yet Tariq?
cokacola Posted July 14, 2008 Author Report Posted July 14, 2008 Yes, it says "A total of £5.52 was taken in 10 pools. 0% of the pools will be retained by the club and so £5.52 will be paid in prizes". The it's got a table Pool: A B C D E F G H I J No.Prizes: 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 2 2 2 Prize.1: 0.07 0.12 0.24 0.09 0.25 0.40 0.00 0.60 0.60 ? Prize.2: 0.05 0.08 0.16 0.06 0.40 0.40 ? I can't see the prizes for J as the printing goes off the sheet. It then says Owner Pools Payout Mr G Hazelwood £3.23 Can you make sense of that? Why are there 2 prizes, but only 1 member having a pools payout. What happened to the rest of the pool money if only £3.23 was paid out? Tariq.
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I can't tell from that - sorry but at a guess - if birds that were pooled were not timed in - then thats why the pool money wasn't paid out
Guest Cock Of The North Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I dont understand your system The old system in Scotland use to be that all pools were paid out at 20 to 1 For instance The 1st bird timed in with 5p on it took all the 5p pools. 10p paid £1.10 until that 10p pool was exausted and each pool paid out 20 to 1 till each pool was exausted Noms and specials was winner take all. Hope you can understand this Tariq a wee word of warning please dont think you can make money at this doo game as mother nature does not allow this. Sometimes we manage a good one now and then ask anyone at the end of the season (Wheres the profit) (1)Feeding (2) Club fees (3)Union fees (Training fees) £3.50 win in a race doesnt pay all that Think about it Im trying too encourage young guys like you into the game , but being realistic about it I do wish you all the best in the near future
Guest shadow Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 personally I think you would be better of not pooling your pigeons until you have more experience even very experienced fanciers do not get it right and fail to clock their pool birds stick to enjoying getting them back
bewted Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 shadow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just to mention,,,it was the pigeon i got of you that bred tariqs winner for him,,,,not bad eh ???

Guest shadow Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 thanks jimmy had a fair amount of success on channel racing but had to give them up due to moving to a smaller property and ill health but do miss them, never bred more than 30 young birds and had a race team of 16 pairs flown roundabout
