thunderboult Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Can you train birds for distance racing or does it pass down through the genes? If not how do you train them? Thanks Gordon i would say a bit of both although i'm no expert on distance racing so i don't think i should offer advice on how to go sorry.
jimmy white Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 in my opinion winning long distance birds, must contain winning long distance blood lines , but as far as training is concerned, by the time the bird is 2or 3 years old [mature birds for the distance], you should have a fair idea, what makes the bird fit, all are individuals and what would suit one, may not suit another some thrive on a lot of work, some dont , this is where , loft management covers all , and this to me, is a very important factor
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'm no expert either so I race them - its good training
john nico Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 jimmy couldnt ov answerd that better my self well said
Guest Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 in my opinion its the blood!!! but also when you have that calibre of pigeon it is important that you do not over race them, i.e sending them to every sprint race ten sending them to tarbes a fatigued athlete, im irish so my race point will b vannes or st.malo lol
Guest kev d Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 all i can tell you is the realy top flyers can win and do well with any breed of bird at the distance cos theyhave the stock sense , as for training let them go in ones and two,s cos when there distance racing they find them selfs in small groups so they have to be confident to strike out on there own for long streches of time train in any direction cos if your racing in nationals they can get draged all over the place , also train just before dusk get them used to fading light
Guest Vic Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Everybody, after a few years racing experience, has within their means, to go all the way to 500 plus. Make Mother Nature be your criterion. (WITH a couple of tweeks) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest G.Drysdale + son Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks for all the info guys
