I got my loft set up end in February, birds moved in a few week later, and I now have 3 pair down on eggs. I got these young birds given by a club member to get me started. Just wondering how often would you rest young birds that are just finding their wings?

I feed them a bit before they go out. They are out for a couple of hours before I call them in but only flying short distances, in these early stages of flying should I give them rest days or continue to let them out daily?

Thank you,

Lee

If you can get them out every day (providing the weather isn't too bad) I would. They will benefit from getting into a routine as early as possible and if you can get them out at the same time all the better. They wont require rest even when they are up and flying for hours at a time. Due to work I cant get mine out at the same time each day but if I could I would.

if that were me i would have them out as often as poss weather permiting of coarse the more they are out when they are very young the better i think helps them settle and they get a good look around before they are flying as long as they trap well for you you should have no probs

Be carefull not to give them to much before letting them out, personally I wouldnt give them anything as you want full control over them,I would get them back in soon after they have had a fly round you dont want them getting into bad habits sitting about on the roof plus the neighbours might not be to pleased.
