bill_bennie Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Emile Bastin, I think was his name. He was flying around the time of the "Sion" & "Stassart" era. If my memory serves me right these three gentelmen switched quite a few birds amongst each other but nevertheless tried to keep their own families together. Back in the early 70's when I started I was told that these birds had exceptional character and their feather always seemed to be immaculate. Tough weather bird and liked all distances. Made a great cross when I put them to my best Jansens at the time. Bred some very consistent birds. Overall a very good family if you can find them today.
pouw22 Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Hi,the last time i saw these birds advertised for sale ''lucian Bastins''was in 2003 by a guy in london who kept these along with bricouxs, stassarts, paul sions and jules janssens, however i think he was quite old then and maybe not around any more, this family he had from mons bastin were based on hansennes,i think his name was jack lovell ?but cant be sure.cheers phil.
Shogun Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Gary, I think you are trying to do some research on our Pifer's bro Nelson Elgarico's Bastins Try this link http://www.americanpigeonracing.com/ Lucien Bastin is from Liege, Belgium. Another fancier here who has Bastin blood is Rudy Tan. Rudy started his Bastins with an egg given by NelsonE I have one of Rudy's hens, which is a sister to his Tacloban champion. Good luck and best regards, Co-Pifers Ed

Pompey Mick Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 I've a book called 'International Racing Pigeons, History and Memoirs by George F. Twombly and he has some Bastin pedigrees 1948 bred by a John Mahaffrey who obtained his stock from Mr Lew Curtis of Boston who imported them from Lucien Bastin in Belgium in the 1920's . Mr Curtis was a millionaire who flew with the Boston Concourse. I have attached a scan of the pedigrees
