grizzle_hen Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Below is an email we have received from Myles Bowen: We have a local charity which has held an annual baloon race at our local show -but not now environmentally acceptable. would a pigeon race be a possible replacement? I visualise say 10-20 birds from one loft with numbers on their legs in an open fronted cage so that people could bet £1 on a particular bird. Birds to be released at end of show. People who selected the winning bird would receive a small prize. We are in South Devon. Is this a goer?? If there is anyone that would be able to help, please pm me and I'll pass your details onto Myles

Guest paulrstokes Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 We used to run a balloon race here in aid of Rainbows childrens hospice, would make them around £2,000 per annum. Local authority stopped us advising they were a danger to aircraft and not degradeable thus harming the enviroment. One thought we had is to get the loft list of a big one loft race such as the RPRA sell the birds at £1.00 a go, 1st in the main race 30% 2nd 20% 50% to charity.
Roland Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 Could simply use any race on any given day. Ok, so might not be actually real ring numbers... I.e. he sells as many as likes, using a rota of GB Numbered rings... I.e agai GB06F35426 GB06K26553 ETC. Then on Racenight simply tally in order etc. Like First birds basketed if GB07Y41178 which becomes GB06F35426, second bird basketed is GB06T96721

Then genuinely use their correct places, regardless whether 398 or whatever as 'First Bird' etc. No problems there then. eh! :o :-/
