jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 the old question,, management or pigeon :) my opinion, both, without both you wont win regular especialy over many years,,,, but one is as important as the other
pjc Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I would say more management than pigeon. A top flyer can win with almost anything but when in a club full of top flyers the birds become more important.
Guest Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Jimmy, without a good pigeon you won't win, with a good pigeon and poor management you can win, with a poor pigeon and great management you can't! The pigeon is the most important because if you have good pigeons it don't mean you will win but at least there is a chance, but if you have poor pigeons you won't win, imo.
Tony C Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Who would win the most, a good fancier with mediocre pigeons or a mediocre fancier with good pigeons?
jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 I would say more management than pigeon. A top flyer can win with almost anything but when in a club full of top flyers the birds become more important. i would tend to slant this way,, management
Guest peter.j Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 id say it depended on the discipline, more management on the shorter races but leaning more on the bird at 500+miles
jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 the same good managers are to be seen at the top with many different type pigeons , through many years , my thoughts would be, a good manager would get the best out the pigeon
Blue Chequer Pied Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I think the balance shifts from fancier to pigeon as the distance increases. Paul.

Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 good thread this one keep the opinions coming
jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 I think the balance shifts from fancier to pigeon as the distance increases. Paul. this too i would agree on,, but still ;D a bad manager can ruin a good pigeon by , ,,,,,simply bad management ;D
OLDYELLOW Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 this too i would agree on,, but still ;D a bad manager can ruin a good pigeon by , ,,,,,simply bad management ;D very true
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 slightly of topic sorry but can we have some opinions on the definition of management
Guest Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 the same good managers are to be seen at the top with many different type pigeons , through many years , my thoughts would be, a good manager would get the best out the pigeon I think there is no doubt, a good manager would get more out of any type of pigeon over an avergae manager, if it's a poor pigeon there is no doubt that there are some fanciers that will get the best out of them; but in my opinion, a decent manager with good pigeons, will beat every time a super manager with poor pigeons
jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 id have to agree with your statement you cant make a poor bird fly or win a race rung a pigeon in a barn [when i was a tv aerial rigger, years ago],, went back for it ar 4 weeks old,,,, topped the fed with it ;D ;D ;D true, p,s there is no truth in the rumour , tony c was seen outside this barn, with a set of ladders ;D ;D ;D
pjc Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 I think good management is having a routine and sticking to it, understanding what makes your birds tick and understanding how and what to feed them to get the best out of them along with understanding how to motivate them.
OLDYELLOW Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 slightly of topic sorry but can we have some opinions on the definition of management a system that produces winners but management is all year round , management fits a few headings , health , fitness , system
Tony C Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Selection, breeding, training, feeding, loft, contentment, conditioning. I'd say 60% fancier 40% pigeon.
Guest Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 slightly of topic sorry but can we have some opinions on the definition of management Following a route that will get the best out of your pigeons, there is no DMS for pigeons so we have no defined benchmark that is tested and proven, so the over used saying in pigeon racing 'many roads lead to Rome' (though they do ;D)would appear to be the standard
jimmy white Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 slightly of topic sorry but can we have some opinions on the definition of management dont think its off topic atall think a good manager, can set a pigeon up for a race , to be sent in the best poss condition
OLDYELLOW Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 rung a pigeon in a barn [when i was a tv aerial rigger, years ago],, went back for it ar 4 weeks old,,,, topped the fed with it ;D ;D ;D true, p,s there is no truth in the rumour , tony c was seen outside this barn, with a set of ladders ;D ;D ;D whos to say parents werent off a line of fed winners ;D ;D ;D ;D :D
Guest Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Would have to be management 80% as the top class fanciers would not keep any crap,as they would identify the crap pretty sharpest and dispose of them.but on the other hand the average fancier would not have the experience or the vision to be so ruthless in selection, therefore lagging behind and achieving little in relation to the better fanciers.A good pigeon will only achieve its potential in the hands of the fancier with the appropriate management skills.
Guest Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 rung a pigeon in a barn [when i was a tv aerial rigger, years ago],, went back for it ar 4 weeks old,,,, topped the fed with it ;D ;D ;D true, p,s there is no truth in the rumour , tony c was seen outside this barn, with a set of ladders ;D ;D ;D Jimmy I believe you will find some of the finest breeders in barns, there are some pigeons that can't home from a mile but are top producers, some of them end up in barns!!
Tony C Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 slightly of topic sorry but can we have some opinions on the definition of management Management to me means learning what make pigeons tick.
