Guest blythy1 Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 just seen this. Cheshire Challenge Announcment Health Issue Hello all Cheshire Challenge Entrants/ Syndicates I have this morning contacted the vet re a problem in the loft I am very concerned about the birds health. I am not going to speculate as to what the problem may be at this time as it won't help and i could be completely wrong. So for the time being i will not be accepting any further deliveries to the loft and i am placing the loft under a complete lock down until this problem is identified. If you had planned a visit to the lofts please wait until we know what the issue is and what recommended course of action is advised by the Vet, I understand that you will all be concerned to know what is going on so i will update very regulary as to what is happening i am unsure as to how long it will take to identify the problem but as soon as it is i will contact you. Lets hope this is something that can be sorted ASAP. http://www.ccolrace.com/messages/listMess.php
Guest Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Not good! Wonder if any of the entrants got their birds off "the stud"? Have to say was going to enter this race but was put off by a) The finnal race distance and the age and condition of the loft (although it was spruced up since)

Sincerely hope for John's sake (and entrants and birds obviously) that this is nipped in the bud quickly and to the desired outcome.
OLDYELLOW Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 all i can say is each loft has its rounds of ailments and diseases and each pigeon is a specimen from each loft and has a immune system that that loft has given them , the problem arises when loads of birds are removed from each colony to live as one new colony , i believe this causes superbugs as all specimens may have strong immunty from certain ailments and week points susceptable to ailments
REDCHEQHEN Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 I noticed today on the hyperdrug site - on their Nobilis (Nobivac) PMV vaccine - in the last few weeks - the description has changed - it was a long description to start with - but is now even longer, with what looks like a disclaimer at the end Also - Nobilis - has a much longer time given for protection against the disease - it takes 4/5 weeks from vaccination, whereas Colombovac is only 2 weeks If anybody else recalls reading this - can you remember if these last few lines were there before? http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=NOB8&variation= Further information A good immune response is reliant on the reaction of an immunogenic agent and a fully competent immune system. Immunogenicity of the vaccine antigen will be reduced by poor storage or inappropriate administration. Immunocompetence of the animal may be compromised by a variety of factors including poor health, nutritional status, genetic factors, concurrent drug therapy and stress. Under certain conditions, for example extreme disease pressure and variant challenge, fully immune birds may succumb to disease. Therefore, successful vaccination may not be synonymous with full protection in the face of a disease challenge. Marketing authorisation number Vm 01708/4489.
Guest numpty01 Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 in other words we are selling you rubbish but we can get out of it by putting load rubbish covering ourselfs ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 Even vacc'd birds show signs of PMV, i know that for a fact! So they still get it but not as bad or fatally like some unvacc'd birds. But is it PMV he has???
