flyingteessider Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 5 weeks ago i sent my pigeons for the 1st time to a race ,Selby was that race, I'm new to the sport all my pigeons were mixed bred by a hobby flyer im not complaining they looked good birds they never raced as young because they were late bred, Any way I'll cut to the chase i lost 5 birds from 65 mile and 4 filterd home but 1 blue cock was in race time 3mins out of the winner but he wouldnt trap i think he'd of took the race ,Now i've got more birds and a good young setup but this blue cock stands out leaps and bounds i keep him with the young birds because he shows no interest in paring to a hen and prefers the young bird loft hes clapping round the sky and flying out for an hour on his own he looks like hes begging for the basket would i loose him from 183 mile melton mowbry your thoughts please. and why you think he wont pare up
REDCHEQHEN Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 If you are flying from Teesside - you wouldn't be flying 183 miles (138?) we have just jumped 5 yearlings from 160 miles- to 260 miles - 1 missing so - no I wouldn't expect you to lose him we jumped a yearlimg hen from 88 to 202 miles last year - and she did well (wouldn't trap - but horses for courses!)
flyingteessider Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 Your right its 135 got my race distance mixed up thanks 4 that
Peckedhen Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Sounds like he's pretty special to you huh? There's only one was to make sure you don't loose him, don't let him out of the loft. ;D Give him the best chance of returning - check the weather forecast and, if in doubt, don't send.
