Guest Denny Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Reading on the internet about old secrets about changing the acidic value of drinking water for the birds - I've read that the use of Apple Cider Vinegar is a good source, then I read about a putting a teaspoon of lemon juice in to 5ltrs of water, or a few cloves of garlic with the outer skins removed and then I read about putting a small stub of a candle with a burnt wick in the water! Does any of this sound familiar - Any recommendations?
Guest stb- Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Denny dont know about the candle bit, probably some fancier watering his birds in the dark and his candle fell in ;D ;D THE CIDER VINEGER IS CERTAINLY GOOD. Also the garlic cloves, dont think i would put the lemon juice in to often

blackdog Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 denny, try the cider vinegar on your birds for a week, 40 mls to a gallon then tell me if you see any difference in your birds
leighton1984 Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 what do you have in your water every day lol not all the stuff that some try to tell to have. do pigeon need all the crap we are told that makes them fly super lol i think not. one old secret is if the bird is no good it must go only keep the very best.
Guest IB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 denny, try the cider vinegar on your birds for a week, 40 mls to a gallon then tell me if you see any difference in your birds Don't disagree with what you say, but as 1 gallon = 4 and a bit litres, maybe the solution is a bit strong? Vinegar in drinkingwater has been advised on various threads here over the years as 5ml to litre. Yours is double that strength.
PATTY BHOY Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 when first started gave the birds burnt toast with cod liver oil.

Guest IB Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Agree with the acidity bit: vinegar and lemon juice both make water more acidic, think lemon juice may be more acidic so use less?. Candle wax I have never heard of this but doesn't sound right? Garlic is not acidic, its the opposite, its alkiline, but does a far better all-round job, crush it into the drinker, effective against bacteria, yeast, mould, cocci, worms, trich, virus ~ and insects.
