depends on the family some develope faster than others once there ranging well and going off for about an hour get them in basket thats way i do it no hard and fast rules some years there quicker than others at getting into the sky and away

like posted by stan what i did wonce i noticed the youngbirds going off for half hour to an hour at times they was put in basket and taken up the road as long as there ranging well they do 5 miles for first toss easy dont worry if it takes them a while the more you take them there the faster they will get what i did was a mate takes my pigeons for me as soon as he libs them he comes back to mine i keep the pigeons at the same lib site to they beat my mate back to mine then go to 10 miles same again to there beating and so on to you reach the distance you wont your pigeons to train to hope this helps seona

just get your birds flying well for an hour or so and not much training is needed my young birds only got trained from 12 miles all season from first toss to last toss and they raced up to 183 miles with only losing 4 out of the 35 racing . traning is just for confidence building and fitness building not training them to come home
