hi mate..my partner works in a care home.....she says if your funding it you just have to ring the home but if you need goverment funding you have to go through social services and they send you out a benifit form.but you get to choose where you send her/him. not all care homes take goverment funded people

cheers mike

Hi

Firstly Is your grand mother under a doctor that specialises in Dementia? if not you need to contact her GP and local social services. Would she be government funded or private?. If you can give me more details I can try to help you get the right help you need.

I run a residential home for adults with Dementia in Stevenage Hertfordshire.

Best Wishes

GP Referal is the way to deal with it, or you can go directly to a Private nursing company who are licensed and with all carers at least NVQ level.  Be careful on why you choose though as there are a lot of outfits out there that run close to the wind..

Josh are you wanting to keep your gran at home or let her go into a care home.

As you know we live very close to each other and i have had experience in the care environment so i would be more than happy to offer you any advice that you need via pm.

I was a senior carer in your area and then i qualified as the Assesment Officer for the same company so i could help if you wish .

sorry to hear that .you are in for a very hard time going through this as anyone that has been through it will tell you.first of all your grandmother will have to be assessed by a doctor

to see how far this has progressed.then either your selves or your grandmothers doctor will get in touch with social work department .then they will get your grandmother a place in one of the homes that deal with patients with  dementia

hi m8 soz to hear about grandmother .  i work as a carer  if u r funding a care home yourself u  will have to ring around homes to find 1 that has spaces  but b prepared as they cost in the region of approx £700 to £ 800 per week for 24hr care.   alternatively  u will have to apply to social services as they may fund it if grandmother doesnt own her own home.also if grandmother can do a few bits herself or can b on her own a bit in the day u could apply for home carers through social services or private company as this is what i do for a living and i have a few ladies and gents that have final stages of dementia .  i hope this hlps if u need to chat pls feel free to pm me m8 .  best of luck m8     clive

Hi mate be very careful it is a mine field every thing is means tested my mate tried for years to get help but had to pay for private help while he worked to feed and give his gran medication on a daily basis .

The times this company failed to turn up and feed and give medication was scandalous always resulting in  calls either from the police or ambulance service after she was found to have collapsed through dehydration etc

The social services will put the onus on you to look after her maybe with some home help  if you cannot pay for private services take my advise and have her put into a home ,with all the good intentions your family as to look after your gran it is better for her and better for your family .When i see what my mate went through the money it cost him and finally cost him after the last time she was found unconscious and admitted to hospital he just gave the hospital a six figure cheque and said look after her and left the hospital destroyed and broke this is true i was with him he still cannot bring himself to visit his gran who raised him .I know his family are trying to get him interested back in is birds and out of his depression and to enjoy himself again a man  who would help anyone especially the most unfortunate of our society .
