budgie Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 :)Have a thought for the canary birds phased out in Britain,s Mining Pits.Modern technology was favoured over the long-serving yellow friend of the Miner in detecting harmful gases underground.Electronic detectors replaced the birds because they cheaper and more effective in indicating pollutants in the Air otherwise unnoticed by the Miners. All the Best for a Happy and Prosperous New Year Keep Clear Aged Stock Birds And dont Forget the 98% Rule Budgie

Guest IB Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 There was a TV programme quite recently showing that they are still kept as pets at one British pit at least. They never really went out of favour as they were so susceptible to even very low levels of gas they gave the men a real early warning of danger. The TV prog also featured the birds emergency breathing gear, used to bring them back round. Shows they cared about those birds in my opinion.
