Guest Owen Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Pigeons are a bit like dogs, they do not sweat. They loose heat by panting.
King Billy. Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 how doo they regulate there body heat in verey warm temps ;)
frank-123 Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 seen some birds with a dark sweat stain on there heads when it gets very hot mostly when they are in the basket so i thought they did sweat
alex wight Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 My initial thought was yes, but interested to read these comments.

Guest IB Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Loaded question. They don't have sweat glands, but they do lose heat through water loss from the lungs. They also lose heat through a special blood vessel system in their legs, when airborne you'll maybe see them drop a leg into the slipstream. Internal air sacs help keep body cool too, cool air being drawn deep into body. In flight they have a special heat coping system involving a constant recycling of uric acid through the blood.

Guest IB Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 dos the uric acid come frome the kidness Yes its the normal white paste atop the dropping. In-flight they have to conserve water-loss, and don't have enough water to spare to flush that away. Its recycled from the kidneys back into the bloodstream, over and over again.

ch pied Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 so that makes the kidneys one of the top components to keep in order and all these dizeses thats doing its rounbs has a major afect on the kidneys that mite never be abile to fully recover and all the meds that get flushed throw the kidneys could be doing more harm than couaring them Yes , the kidney's are the purifiction tool , that clean the system , med's on a regular basis treating for thrico , coccci , worm's , respo , on a rotating programe & who know's what damage has been done . I was guilty of this manny year's ago , A lesson learned the hard way .
Guest IB Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I don't think you can single out any one organ. I think the whole body is only as a good as the weakest bit. So every part of it needs to be in tip-top condition. Probably beyond what medication can achieve?
David048 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 kidneys clean the body of impurities just like in humans. i can't think that birds sweat though because that would mess up their feathers. Not sure how they cool themselves though, because sweating is what helps cool us down. Never really thought about it though - interesting question.
WUL.D Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 do pigeons sweat ;) only in september when i pull out a black bag! lol
degi Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 do pigeons sweat ;) no .Pigeons blood is of a higher temp than humans so take longer to heat up,they have an inbult air cooling system,by taking air into special air sacs thus cooling blood vessels ,this is the panting efect. blood olso passes close to the surface on their legs and feet wich helps cool them down ,olso by sreading their feathers.
