jimmy white Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 What water is given to the birds on the transporter ? Is it "local water " or what has been taken to the lib site ? Many moons ago it was a rule that Lancashire birds were given Lancashire water. However, I give water that is over 24 hrs old from the tap. I believe this gives time for flouride additives to evaporate/dissipate/weaken. Hope you get my drift/tide/flow i give ordinary "tapolene ;D" i,e, water,, often a little garlic added,, but like to make sure the water is kept clean,,,,, i find the above post relavent , the quality of water can change in different places,, soft water here in scotland,, hard water in london,,, we are often told to drink bottled water if going abroad??,,,, i believe they should have the water their used to, in their racing transporter
Skull Lofts Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 The more days you can give them plain water the better (I also let it stand for 24hrs). Best to mix stuff in with their feed. How?
Guest strapper Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 monday medication tuesday same weds same thurs same fri same sat clean same sun clean same.......that what some think thats what happens.. of those of us that medicate when in fact the best system you have on you...your eyes..they will tell you what your birds need! cider vinegar and fresh garlic cloves are a fav of mine, but theres never a set system when or how much i use them. i add vitamins in the water when i feel like it i add treatments when they need it...then only treatment in the water. i try to start treatments on the sunday and end by thurs...if poss. fri.. maybe some honey early morn...depending what distance, (i pour warm water over some honey to break it down and when its in a more liquid form i pour into the drinkers of the racers.) maybe some will say that wouldnt suit me..but it suits myself.
pjc Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 How? If you give anything added to water you don't know how much they are having, birds will drink more or less with weather conditions etc whereas if just plain water is given medication/additives can be measured with the amount of food given.
wilkins Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 i treat on food , what every i use ,where is says this amount to one liter i use this for 20 birds as a guide, was told this was a good guide by a vet that way they get there dose i measure 20 oz of corn and use add herb to stick the powder to this way you no they take all the medicine

Good old clean tap water and a touch of sweetener to encourage them should be enough. Got us 5 top 20 fed results last year with mediocre birds so can't be all that bad.
DOVEScot Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Alot of people use cider vinger ill have to get some and have a go.Can i buy this from a supermarket? Make sure it is the cloudy version as filtered or pasteurised ones lose the iron, tannins and antioxidants etc

Jimmys in Scotland, i hope the "mediocre" latebred you send me goes on to breed a few fed toppers (evil)(evil) andy.
bluey Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 When giving medication in the drinkers use cool boiled water, a tip given by a top racing man. Common sense when you think about it, nothing in there to corrupt the treatment being used.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Hi can any1 give me a basic water routine monday /sunday please i want to know what i should use in the water to keep my birds in top condition. as little as possible
Guest kevin b Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 but then again treating on the food they will eat more food when feeding youngsters so its the same Any preventitive medication is usually given before the birds are on youngsters, so you know exactly what they are getting. If you have to treat when birds are on youngsters your already in trouble I think. Kevin

andrew gooch Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Hi can any1 give me a basic water routine monday /sunday please i want to know what i should use in the water to keep my birds in top condition. This all depends on weather your breading or racing as the breaders water and race water vary very much.
pigeonscout Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 i allways let my water stand to dissapate esp. when useing anything in the water thats what the clorine does kill off anything in the water never mix anything for the birds with chemicals thats what clorine is I fill my drinkers from the bath tap as the water has been in the tank in the roof space and not st8 from the mains.

dwh Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Or put the water in the microwave for 30 secs and it does the same job. we use water out of dehumidifer if required when medicating
bluey Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 I fill my drinkers from the bath tap as the water has been in the tank in the roof space and not st8 from the mains. It may sound contradictory but water left standing in a container will lose it's chlorine/flouride content, yet in a storage tank in the roof space may pick up bugs, which is why when mixing infant milk it was always recommended to use water direct from the cold tap.
