Guest BIRD_MAN_JOHN Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 if you make your self a cardboard funnel hold the egg up to the light and look through the funnel it will tell you more then you want to know.
Guest vander mungo Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 all, good advice from everyone ,but best to leave the birds alone during the cold months, can upset them ,and make them desert nest. wait till you see shells on floor then youll know

Guest WINGS 04 Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 after 3 days you know what sex is in each egg 9 out of 10 times how do you no that ??????????
THE FIFER Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 just learnt something the other night how farmers tell if an egg is healthy, its the air sack if big a healthy egg and small not so healthy, so dont know if this makes any difference to breeding from them,
Guest stb- Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 NEVER CHECK MINE IF THEY DONT COME OUT TO BAD . NEVER HAPPENS VERY OFTEN THOUGH
Tony C Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 If full the colour of the eggs take on an opaque sheen.
Guest IB Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Tend to check them, once only, around 10 days after 2nd egg is laid. Can't describe this too well, but developing egg does feel 'heavier' in hand, and looks a lot darker too, probably because light isn't able to pass through it now. If you do hold them up to light (sun) you should see a solid mass taking up big end, that you can't see through, and a see-through smaller patch at small end, which is the air sac. As Fifer says, I am sometimes amazed at how much space that air sac takes up in the developing egg .
Guest puresoontjen Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 most of the time the birds will get them out there self. there not daft they no if they will be any good or not, i leave them to it.just keep an eye on things make sure you dont upset them.
