FoxesFan4Ever Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Hi all, Went out to the loft this morning and found a dead bird. No blood on it, no sign of any injury at all in fact. Looked as though she just keeled over by the food hopper. She was only a yearling, could the cold have killed her, some kind of fright etc. All the other birds in the same loft look fine including the week old chicks but so did she yesterday. Any ideas? Thanks all
kirky Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 check her vent may have been egg bound due to cold weather a mates just had the same thing.
holmsidelofts Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 check her vent may have been egg bound due to cold weather a mates just had the same thing. It could be anything, the bird could have had an heart attack or anything. If its just the one then i wouldnt be overly worried, ok you have lost a bird but that happens in nature and can happen to anyone of us, and at some point it has to most of us. Jas.
FoxesFan4Ever Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 Thank you all, Re eggbound, she was sitting 2 eggs so as far as I am aware that is all they ever lay but I dont mind being corrected if there is a chance she could still be bound. I am not excessively worried but I wouldn't like to think that the others might be susceptible to anything she may have had but as I say no signs of any distress or damage on her so I will keep my eye on things and be back if any developments.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Sounds like an heart attack it happens im afraid

Thanks all i dont think the cold would kill this bird, and if the bird has just layed ,she must have been healthy enough in that respect,, with all the other birds sounding ok, i would suspect a heart attack, or a poisoning of some sort,
mamun2a Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 sorry 4 the news. i also think of "i would suspect a heart attack, or a poisoning of some sort,"
