grizzal Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 What is the best way to deal with this problem? We have had 2 cocks that have come back from there daily fly with only half a flight, would it be pull it or try and stick half on. all the best paul
Guest j.bamling Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Its best to leave them a fortnight to make sure the flight is dead before pulling it if you have time this is the best thing to do however if times running out for racing you could try and pull it straight away

jimmy white Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 i would agree with jimmy, but would leave well alone, if it is the first flight,, ive tried this sticking , it can be done, but never really successful,, ,, usually when a flight is pulled it grows in just a tad shorter than it should be, but by past experience, it doesnt make any difference to performance, had a bird once with broken tail feather,, the middle one ;D,, pulled this broken feather,, the bird [the 5185 cock] won many races,, so done this each year,, [then read article re. this in levi,s book on the pigeon],,,
pjc Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 keep old flights during the moult, if a flight then gets broken, cut it 3/4 down the remainng flight cut the spare flight to the right length. use a piece of cocktail stick and super glue into both pieces of flight, it'll be as good as new!
Guest IB Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 There should be no problem in pulling a fully grown flight, there's no blood supply to worry about. If its in P1 - 5 range it will take around two weeks to grow back in.
Wizzer Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 No messing mate. Pull the flight. It will take 5 weeks to grow fully. That will make it ready for your first race. I`ve do this every time one breaks and thats why I know the duration for the growth. It does`nt harm the bird.

Novice Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I would tend to think about whether there is something causing this problem. 2 birds with broken flights in a short time seems too coincidental to be correct. Could they have broken them fighting in the loft or were the flights possibly weak to start with?
