Guest cosmic dave Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 I have been looking around on YouTube to get some pigeon keeping ideas and I notice a few lofts seem to have plastic decoy birds of prey near their lofts. Is this to keep real ones away ? :-/ David
pjc Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 it can distract them but you need to keep moveing the decoys or they just get used to them!
PIGEON_MAN Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Yes your right Dave but as with a lot of these things the BOP seem to get used to them after a while, the usual plastic ones your talking about are models of the Eagle owl, have known people put them up and have no problems with the BOP for a while and then the next thing is they are perching on top of the model.
cowman Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 ive got an eagle owl and move it every couple of days to 3 differant posts i had trouble with sparrow hawk last year but since i got the eagle owl ive never had another visit .
Alen Gibb Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 My mate has plastic decoys and moves them around. He also has a rotating amber light - hasn't made the slightest difference - still plagued by sparrow-hawks. One SH unfortunately killed herself on a window whilst attacking his birds but was replaced by another within 24 hours.
DOVEScot Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 From first hand experience they work well when you first put them up but the hawks get used to them, I get good success when I play the eagle owl CD
