Guest vander mungo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 i,am a ets user but if SHU BRING in the combi ring next year, whitch is causing concern amongst RPRA members, what efect will this have on SHU members. so i would advise do,nt buy to many conventional ets rings, if you can,t use them all this year, and are not allowed to use them next year youll be left with them. on the other hand if you are allowed to use your excess ets rings and leave the combi ring unchipped ,then youll be left with 2 hazzards one on each leg c,mon who,s kidding who surely the combi cant be any bigger than the ets i use , with no hazzards or problems with racing . all our members first club winners and fed toppers are ets rung
Guest frank dooman Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 iam a non ets fancier but i dont think the rings are as bad as been made out time will tell if they stand the test of time JMO
hotboy Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 the combi ring a seen at blackpool at unicon stand looked smaller than the ets ring we use just now
Guest frank dooman Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 the combi ring a seen at blackpool at unicon stand looked smaller than the ets ring we use just now yes defo i would like someone to bring out small coloured pieces to slide in to them to act as stock markers
tjloft Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Good idea - I already use various colour marker rings for strains. This would make good use of the lugs.
Guest vander mungo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 surely the pigeons that carried messages during the war had bigger things to hamper them, didnt stop them still save many a life
Guest Davy Fleming Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 The SHU will be bringing these rings out next year
tyson Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 think they should be asking the members first could cause problems
Guest vander mungo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 TYSON, hearing roomers its going to cause a divide down south, SHU dont need that up here . had this before must stay united
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 2011 - both conventional and combi rings will be available from SHU. You will not be allowed to take the lugs off; if you do, you will not be allowed to race them in SHU-affiliated clubs.
Guest vander mungo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 now that makes sense, one for the conventional flier and one for the ets man .tell me why didnt the RPRA come with that soulition ,ill tell you why because they couldnt. why not leave things as they are ,and let people buy there own ets rings seperate from SHU metal ones, whats the problem
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 now that makes sense, one for the conventional flier and one for the ets man .tell me why didnt the RPRA come with that soulition ,ill tell you why because they couldnt. why not leave things as they are ,and let people buy there own ets rings seperate from SHU metal ones, whats the problem There is widespread opinion that there should only be a need for one ring on the bird, 'that does everything'. There is also disquiet that manufacturers are dictating prices, keeping prices high, e.g. SHU are told what the buying price will be for ets rings, are told what the re-selling price will be, was £1.20, and now been told to put it up to £1.30 (from end of February). SHU trying to get ets & life ring manufacturers to come together to produce a life ring that has a chip embedded in it, and are trying to get other Unions on board, for block approach to manufacturers. Big buying power can also dictate prices.
tyson Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 this is what i mean if everybody is forced to use life rings then the companies that make them will dictate the price which will make it more expensive to race our pigeons
DOVEScot Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Having looked at the rings at Blackpool they won't be easy to file as there is a risk you will break the seal and allow water into damage the paper inserts that have all the info into them, also the when the ring does not have a chip inserted it may catch on any number of things :-/ JMO
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 this is what i mean if everybody is forced to use life rings then the companies that make them will dictate the price which will make it more expensive to race our pigeons Don't think so. A standard chip, not necessarily produced by any of the ets companies, so its price is out of their hands, and all life rings are sourced from one belgian? company Happerschlaggen? just now; the main thing that determines their cost is the £/euro exchange, £ nosediving against euro put up cost of rings to all of us in the UK, nothing to do with manufacturer putting up price.
Guest vander mungo Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 so whats coming next are they going to tell me whose system i can use ,then what where i shop asda or tescos
Novice Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Having looked at the rings at Blackpool they won't be easy to file as there is a risk you will break the seal and allow water into damage the paper inserts that have all the info into them, also the when the ring does not have a chip inserted it may catch on any number of things :-/ JMO I saw a couple of rings being delugged tonight using a nail clipper and stanley knife to trim them. Sandpaper if required. Yes there is a risk of water ingress.
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 so whats coming next are they going to tell me whose system i can use ,then what where i shop asda or tescos All ets systems have to be compatible with each other. ets ring comes down to a standard chip, no matter which brand, all the same chip, and that chip is probably made by yet another company, a lot cheaper than the price that the ets ring is sold to us.
tyson Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 why should the fancier not have the choice of what rings we want to put on our birds i think to many people have a vested interest in everone having ets jmo
square_peg Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 as it stands now,we have life rings,if the plastic comes off the 'metal' ring our doo is knackered. most of us have had it. in this day and age surely a wee daft doo can get a second chance 'ie' some kind of identidy after original has been broken, cut off, dont work
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 why should the fancier not have the choice of what rings we want to put on our birds i think to many people have a vested interest in everone having ets jmo I believe an 'intelligent chip' in the pigeon's life ring is a step forward for the sport. For example, if it also made it possible to track the bird it would help us understand better what was happening on race days. If an audience could watch a pigeon race unfold 'on screen' - on TV, e.g Saturday Sports, or on PC, and people found that interesting, it could also open up the sport to sponsorship. Wider publicity might also bring in new members.
tyson Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 dont get me wrong i have nothing against ets but dont force it on to fanciers that dont want it

Yes there is a risk of water ingress. I think there are some members that won't be as gentle or some even capable of removing the lugs due to arthritis etc
