well just got back from the weekend away in antwerp and dutch spring fayre

there were some good bargains at lier this year witht he rpra rejecting belgium rings some were going fo as little as 5 euro later in the mornng well after we had gone mind you but still picked up a nice pair of nest mates for 30 euro around £14 each there seemed to be a lot more sellers than usual and low on buyers when we got there at 07.30 which helped to keep the prices down

hope they keep to the same rings next year save a fortune if rpra members cant race them    ;) ;D ;D ;D

Last time I went, a few years ago there were a couple of people who had set up more professional stalls selling birds with pedigrees and asking more for them!

I think the fun of Lier is buying cheap birds that can be flown and tested.

there was plenty of youngsters there this year and got to be honest the best ive seen them for a few years ,i think its down to lack of english fanciers not going there that they needed to be better bred than previous years to commit someone to by them

I have bought pigeons from Lier. Some were OK, one was very good and won several prizes including a good National position, some were total rubish and two were the worst homing pigeons I have ever seen. Over the years I must have bought about 20 or so. Bearing in mind I only managed to find one worth his corn, they came out very expensive.

It is a gamble if you like to gamble. I do not like the odds myself.

I bought 6 one year and 2 the next  8 years ago and got two North of Scotland Fed toppers in one fast race and another very hard race so that was not bad odds. Also one breed two birds that  have multipule fed tickets to date for friends in Peterhead and Aberdeen.
