Ulsterman Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 first 10 feathers of the wing are the flight feathers.counting from the outside/tip to the inside.
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Flight feathers are the long feathers, Mamun. I've edited your picture to show Primary and Secondary flights. They are numbered from the centre of the wing outwards, so No1 primary and No1 secondary lie together in the centre of the wing, while Nos 10 Primary is on extreme outside, and No10 Secondary is on the inside, near the birds body. They are moulted in order 1 to 10. Not sure you can tell age of the bird from a pic. The new youngster will grow a full set in the nest, and at about 6 weeks of age will moult No1 primary in each wing, and within 6 months moulted out all its nest feathers and grown all its new adult feathers.

mamun2a Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 for acquire them to my custody, i ve lost 2 already
Guest stb- Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 if your doing that cut the feathers acroos on one wing only ,that will stop them dont pull them its cruel and they will grow in quickly again
mamun2a Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 at first i cut them, but the cut feathers are not grow or moulted quickly so i do the pulling business.
Shortcut Lofts Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Do not cut or pull feathers. Use soap and from the bottom to the top of each flight rub in the soap always in one stroke. When each flights become stuck to the quill the bird cannot fly. This method will not damage the flights and when the bird is settled give it a couple of baths and the soap will come out. I use washing up liquid, it is the best. SL
Guest stb- Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 at first i cut them, but the cut feathers are not grow or moulted quickly so i do the pulling business. SHOULD KEEP YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCES TO YOUR SELF REGARDING PULLING
mamun2a Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 well i got the point how to make them not flyer and whats r fli8 fethr
gingell Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 no disrespect dont think u should b doing any of those things if there content they`ll stay my freind
Guest bakes Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 pick of one of our flor engels wings to show you all the best
Guest bakes Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 also wouldnt cut or pull flight feather bud leave them as they are if there content the birds will stay to the lofts you keep them in when you give them there freedom to exercise if they no they be fed and watered and being looked after they will try there all to get back to the lofts nothink will stop them due to there built in homing insticts all the best.
Guest IB Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 at first i cut them, but the cut feathers are not grow or moulted quickly so i do the pulling business. Cut feathers will not regrow until it is time for them to moult. A pulled feather will regrow fairly quickly, but I would advise you not to do this unless the flight is damaged. I would not do either of these things to settle new pigeons. I am not sure what the best method would be to settle new pigeons to your hutches , but I think a cage placed in front of that birds box , that lets the bird see its surroundings, might work.
jimmy white Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 is it racing pigeons you keep mamun?? or fancy pigeons [non racers] pulling the flights out wouldnt be good for the bird, mamun, it could upset the natural moult , as in your country they could be moulting now, even cutting their flights could damage their wings, when they try to fly ,,, far better to keep them in an aviary for a while where they can see their surroundings, they will soon learn where they belong, and should stay with you easier,, good luck
mamun2a Posted March 10, 2010 Author Report Posted March 10, 2010 dr Jimmy and IB, i keep them in front of their nest for about 6 days now. but seems they do not use to for the nest yet. so i again decide to pull out fethr of one wing. my birds r for breeding, no race. dr bake, thanks 4 the hard work.
Guest joshdonlan Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 If you pulling their wings ever likely they dont want to come back You need to treat the birds properly and then they will be fine If they are all leaving then you are to blame :-/
