Guest cosmic dave Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I have let my YBs out a few times now but all the do it sit on the house roof !! should i take the on a half mile drive and release them so they have to fly or will they get lost ? :-/
north wales novice- Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 have they flown before Dave ?? andy.
stantheman Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 dont rush them, try cutting the food back a little or add 25% barley to the feed you will soon have them up in the air, if their not flying there is no point taking them up the road as you will lose them all best stan
Guest cosmic dave Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Not really Andy. One did on the first couple of releases in fact I thought it had gone but it came back :-/
north wales novice- Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 well as long as their not ailing for something i would wait a week , ybs can change a lot in that time they will fly when ready . good luck Dave . andy.
greenlands Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 As Stan says Patience. One of the best fanciers I knew told me some 50 years ago" the first two handfulls of feed be it for youngens ,birds racing 50 mile or 500 mile is BARLEY" You've got to be the boss of them from day one,if they make a fool of you once they'll think they can do it for the rest of their lives. Never take pigeons away from the loft untill they start ranging on their own. BE THE BOSS. Lindsay
Guest cosmic dave Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Cheers Andy, They are a couple of months now Dave.
Guest cosmic dave Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 hav'nt noticed them doing that, they are pecking in the house gutter tho :-/ why what you thinking ?
Guest Davy Fleming Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 There is absolutely no question in my mind that they will have FUNGAL AND BACTERIAL PROBS .
Guest Davy Fleming Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Had this many times over the years and have found this has always been the case with the moss and they will never ever be right until they are treated for it mate so tossing them will only be a loss to yourself no ifs no maybees no nothing.
mark proctor Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 hav'nt noticed them doing that, they are pecking in the house gutter tho :-/ why what you thinking ? dont worry dave as long as there droppings are fine and there not fat like pigs,,i scared mine when i first started up cos i was like you wanted to see them fly,,big mistake ,,i lost 15 out ot the 30 i had,,must of hit another batch,,maybe trainners,,they will go when there ready m8 trust me,,if you keep scaring them they will land down the street were you carnt reach them,,i no ive been there,,,my m8 paired up the same time as me,,is are going for 1/2 hour,,mine havent even took up yet,,different pigeons,,area,,and fancier,,,and food some times....atb ..mark...
Guest bakes Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 dont rush them, try cutting the food back a little or add 25% barley to the feed you will soon have them up in the air, if their not flying there is no point taking them up the road as you will lose them all best stan agree with stan they will get up when there ready dont push them let them out and let them do what they wont cut there food down aliittle as might be over weight like a human when overwieght there lazy and dont wont to do anythink i wouldnt take them up road as if there not been rangeing for a good hr or more for a good few days they wont pick up the areas they no around were they live just have to grin and bear it mate they get up when there ready dont scare them up as they will reconise were they live as a threat and will fly off and never come back just time and pashont mate thats all all the best klaus
clayton moore Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 These young birds are only babies and while on the roof are getting a look about.Dont be in a hurry to have them fly just yet.Ease off on the corn include barley then they will start to flick about. Its a lifetimes job flying so make sure there prepared. As the boy scouts say dib dib dib.
stantheman Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 i am convinced that they are being overfed and need to know whos in charge get them on barley and use a whistle or rattle the corn tin and any they stay on roof dont get fed i bet within a week you have sorted it and they will be flying but dont get scaring them up its the worst thing you can do all best stan
Guest wattle Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 ive had young birds sit around on the loft roof for two weeks and the were out every day, take your time, and theres nothing wrong with them, the will go when there ready, rush them and you could lose them.
