I remember Jim Harrison of the Successful J & J Harrison Lesmahagow telling me once when i was young that the first question that he asked a new date was do you like pigeons, if the answer was no he dumped them without a blink of an eye - the rest is history as they were a top class Scottish husband and wife partnership.

the trick is not to tell them then take them over to see them when the dance is finished i used to a lot when i had them on the ellotments had a fine big cabin    happy days  ;D ;D ;D

I met Dave 5 years ago and i didn't know a thing about pigeons.

5 years down the line i have my own pigeons, run a Pigeon Courier business with Dave and i truly believe if a girlfriend/wife doesn't have an interest in pigeons then they will lead a lonely life.

Very early on i learnt that the pigeons come first so it was a case of muck in or shut up,

Have to say I met Liz through our mutual love of pigeons,I only ever raced until I met her and she had only showed pigeons so we do both and so twice the fun ,once the racing is finished the showing begins so the year lasts a lot longer

i would have to agree i seem to take a subconscious dislike to women that arnt as fanatical as me about pigeons or animals in general but is seems to be in the reverse to mr harrison they generaly chuck me cause i wont shut up about pigeons or dogs  :X

 

mind you i do know when to keep my mouth sut and get on with the job at hand  ;D

I guess I was Lucky--the wife and I raced pigeons for 31 years--she was a very good handler--April 13th we will be married 53 years. Not sure how many more years I am Stuck with her.

Girlfreinds tend to become wifes and if she dislikes the birds  poblems arise. You can get rid of the  pigeons when your fed up. But the wifes another ball game. :) ;) ;)

Well here is my story , when i took an interest i was then dumped !yep he said i was taken too much of an interest in his birds! , comming between him and his bird .........so sometimes we can't win no matter what we do .love them or hate them ! so to all the girlfriends out there it won't matter one way or another ............
