cemetary Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 I just looked out the window over the fields area/gulley what looked lik a sparrowhaw, went and got the binoculars and yes it was, watched this for a couple of minutes before it dived into the field area. What amazed me was, it was just like hovering but it was climbing all the time, has anyone else ever seen this before, because i havent, i can also say that it was very high, i thought it was percy but no. You could not see this with the naked eye.
Merlin Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 May have been a Kestrel similar to sparrowhawk at distance, except for wing flights which are rounded.,
cemetary Posted May 1, 2008 Author Report Posted May 1, 2008 Merlin This was no Kestrel mate i can assure you on that, it was a sparrowhawk. The kestrel only hovers above the pray, not very high, this was high, couldnt believe the hight of it. Thanks for your comments though.
bigun Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 this is the time of year when sparrow hawks pair up and also the time of year when you will see them soaring its all part of the courtship
alex wight Posted May 1, 2008 Report Posted May 1, 2008 On the topic off Sparrowhawks. John Honeyman & Son got a shock a couple of days ago, when a sparrowhawk was in his young bird hut, and had taken the head of a young bird. Can we take any action when this happens? He managed to stroke it before it left the hut in a rush.
