ok lets say for argument sake they started moving the peres, giving there young to falconers of such, what about spars? do they constantute a threat to your birds? i know they take woodpigeons in the wild but unlike peres sparrowhawks are alot harder to find the nests so yo would have a bop that takes them but couldnt be as well regulated.

sproggle's are as common as crow's , and they take raceing pigeon's by stealth and suprise , , fact is we are getting it at both end's in the air & around the loft , by percy and the sproggle's , the goss hasen't got a real foothold here yet , but UNDER CLANDESTINE OPP'S the RSPB have a programe for a ramp up in number's , the only good thing that come's from a goss , it will kill the young sproggle's in the nest , sproggle's have almost wiped out small bird's in the area that i live , the pigeon was next on the menue , homer's  , roller's in fact any type of pigeon , when they find the road to the cream jar , they won't leave you alone .

Sometimes fanciers wonder why they are not taken seriously, i wonder why. A self confessed lover of BOP comes on here to ask questions to find out more about our problems with raptors. So rather than try and win him over with a factual based argument, we all behave like soccer louts or school yard bullies and hurl abuse. I know he has reacted too, but so would i.

 

So in terms of soccer Falcons 1 Pigeons 0, keep up the good work lads.

i think it would be wrong if you left the thread , you can air your view's and we can do same , some fancier's have been wiped out by BOP , it has become a subject on going  between us and the RSPB . we put are point over and they will not listen . they have lied about the number's of BOP for some 30+ year's , why do you think they are installing breeding boxe's on church building's and the like , do you really think its ,  lets have a blog , no my friend , there is that many percy's out of town , it is not practical , in other word's it's crowded out there

i think what the problem is we al know they kill racing pigeons the falcon that has a varied diet well that no problem at all as he will take racing pigeons but will take other species of bird too its when they get a taste for racing birds in a area that a fancier is in some trouble 3 years ago now i had 16 cocks for racing and just flying around my loft as i keep them in all winter so no birds will be taken anyway two weeks before the start of the racing season last year i lost 9 cocks in the space of two weeks i tried everything as in discs flashing lights all the usual plastic eagle owls the lot noting worked this is the problem when the birds are racing well there not a lot anyone can do but when u see them being taken as they are just out to exercise this drives us mental that whole racing season was ruined for me a whole years work well more really as they made it though as young birds and some were 3 year old birds one cock was after winning me well over 2000 pounds and its not even the money u dont breed to many birds like that about the amount of falcons well its crap there are even more than anyone thinks i live in a town and within a 20 mile radius of me at one time that i know of there were 8 nesting pairs and im not sure about this but aint they suppose to be more falcons just flying around than just nesting dont take that as fact

 

on the amounts well look at  it this way we the fancier are putting a false amount of food in the sky at the right times of the year for the falcon as where if there was no racing fanicers if a hen had 4 chicks im sure they all wouldn't live if there was no racing pigeons its called natural selection as we are putting a false amount of food in sky the full nest is living

 

on deterrents they don't work they might work for a few days but that it on eagle owls if u do your research on them they wont fix the problem very few of them kill birds of prey or very little u might get a few that will kill falcons but that really is not very common

its not here to find out about our problems, it knows all about them [and no doubt like most of those sick bunch of james hunts loves it]the last time i went on a pro hawk site the abuse i got was astounding [at least 3 of the things i was told to go and do, would have been great when i was single and a bit thinner ;D ;D ;D ;D]it cannot expect anything polite when we go on their sites and get abused by them,there can never be agreement with them,its a do it yourself solution[and if their owners get in the way[if they have owners] the self defence excuse can be used .most of them are now watching that damned web cam with a pot of hand cream[in one hand]you cannot talk to these people they do not care about any sort of bird apart from hawks

And pigeon fanciers are'nt single minded

 

In my experience Chris, falconers are not much different to pigeon folk. They look after their birds well as most of us do, sometimes even better. I think you'll find most of those webcam hits are not from these but the ordinary joe public who believe the hype of the RSPB, and those that think its some sort of great conservation project and champion the cause, how wrong they are.

 

Also its not them who are trying to fight the RSPB policys, so why should they have to thik about their profile. Falconers are not all RSPB supporters, remember one of the bggest threats to these BOP is egg/young stealing for personal use.
