Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I welcome the buzzards around my loft, even though they are no real threat to percy or the sparrowhawk but I feel they do put them off slightly. The buzzard will take anything it can but to take a pigeon it will already be injured or ill in my opinion. I have seen a buzzard take a rat on the ground, the rat froze in fear!
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 kind of self explanatory is it not, it is there in front of you :-/ :-/.I would suggest if you don't have the bottle to tell us who you are and what club you are in,then everybody on this site should re frame from answering any further posts by yourself. And further more if you do not we will all no you are at the madam for sure. :-/ :-/ :-/ Im not holding a gun to your head and making you answer me feel free to leave the thread at any time
Guest Owen Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 What the idiot can not see is that he is feeding pigeons to hawks with the result that he is actually helping the hawks to kill other peoples' pigeons. He is already trying to say that he has the right to do as he sees fit and he is not interested in what the rest of us think. The nasty part of someone like him is that he will cause chaos and discord deliberately. How any pigeon lover, or even bird lover, can stand by and watch as a hawk eats their birds alive is beyond me. Bearing in mind that this guy does not want to find solutions to our concerns and worries, he is best set adrift and left to his own devices. He should be chucked out of every club and organisation and left to do whatever he wants by himself. To me he is a bad mannered troublemaker bent of causing the maximum upset as often as he can.
Guest spin cycle Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 lol u lot need to chill ;D ;D ;D i agree. i have barn owls, kestrels and the odd buzzard.....they don't seem to worry my birds....in fact i welcome them as anything that might deter the sparrowhawk is good to me.

Guest IB Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 We have buzzards around here, and they get the same 'bumsrush' as the sparrowhawk from the crows around here, I have also noticed gulls chase them off too. My birds watch buzzards circling high in the sky, I think my birds seem wary rather than scared of them. Clubmate tells me he witnessed one take a wild magpie in woods near his loft. Also remember one taking off from the grass verge of a road, carrying something 'that could fit in a tesco carrier bag', a full grown rabbit maybe? Was surprised it could lift that.
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I Have 2 buzzards circle above my loft every day and they have never shown any interest in my birds
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 we have buzzards flying around the compound all the time and they couldnt care less about the pigeons But the crows hate them they are always chasing them away
b.massey Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Yeah we have a pair about 300 yards away from our home so theres about 5 (2 adult 3 young) always in our area at moment and never had a single bit trouble from them.... Also they always seem to show right when we get a bird from race. We see the buzzard then think ok we will be timing in 2 mins ;D

b.massey Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Sounds like it yes.... They usually just glide over at a fairly slow pace
flyingteessider Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 they dont bother my birds and stay way high, i can live with them
flyingteessider Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 they just circle for hours and dont seem to move ther wings
Guest Freebird Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Sounds like it yes.... They usually just glide over at a fairly slow pace Only when conditions are right ( thermals) seen them take rabbits live and squeeling. A shooting friend said one dived and attacked his wood pigeon decoys. Never witnessed a buzzard kill a bird but they are opertunists and will take young birds unable to fly well, hence the crows chase them from their territory.
gangster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 and heres 1 for you i think i may have a new resident in my area a YOUNG EAGLE OWL me n the boy were watching it flying its kinda funny as most all other birds kinda dissapeared as it flew around.....
gangster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 and just 2 add it had no leathers attached, deffo a juvinile but a big thing as well....
gangster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 ive got admit if id not seen this id never have believed it...throws a new light on our carrion eating only buzzards
Guest peter.j Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 i know lads that fly captive bred buzzards and they do hunt but are lazy birds so a dead sheep is more appealing to them than chasing birds/rabbits
shotgun tim Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 never film one taking a fit healthy pheasant then il believe you and pheasants are not indigenous to this country get rid of the pheasants gamekeepers are the worst they destroy all the wild life for the sake of few silly pheasants oh i forgot to say when we get them they tend to disaper ;) also do you nevver kill any of your racing pigeons?
Guest Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Yes im realy a pigeon fancier and its called having your own opinion how boring would it be if we all had the same opinion and yeah im an acception to the rule as i dont believe in persecuting hawks for our sport iv lost loads of pigeons to hawks atleast the hawk got a good feed and as for who do i fly as its not really any of your business ;D Wonder if any of your clubmates would agree with your views? And yes it is my business when someone comes onto a forum I frequent for the love of the pigeon not the love of raptors when someone like you comes on here to cause what to me looks like deliberate trouble making. Besides how can we even begin to take anything you say seriously if you aren't open about who you are and where you fly? Personal opinion is your full of it mate because your words let you down, "At least the hawk gets a good feed", get real. > > > >
