pjc Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Who says buzzards don't take live birds? http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Buzzard-Swoops-And-Eats-Rare-Wading-Bird-In-Front-Of-Birdwatchers/Media-Gallery/200901315204704?lpos=UK_News_Third_Picture_Gallery_Teaser_Region____5&lid=GALLERY_15204704_Buzzard_Swoops_And_Eats_Rare_Wading_Bird_In_Front_Of_Birdwatchers
Swifts Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 If you take into account that the wader had just flown god knows how far to get there, it was probably dead tired and an easy meal. A buzzard won't actively chase a fit bird in flight.
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Very rarely tho as it said in the article

Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Very rarely tho as it said in the article Are you really a pigeon fancier because you only ever seem to come into threads to defend BOP. Not that this is a bad thing, its good to agree to disagree on things but please be open if that's your purpose here. Who do you fly as and for what club if you don't mind.

blaz Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 any way if a buzzard can out fly your racing pigeons it,s time to get faster pigeons. on the plus side of buzzards .you won,t get a sparrow hawk or a peregrine taking any of your birds with buzzards around as buzzard would steal what ever thy have caught

Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Well Skymaster since you don't mind the bop taking your birds, for as at least they get a good feed speaks volumes about the quality of pigeon you house. :-/ :-/ YEAH YOUR RIGHT PAL ONLY THE BEST THATS THE ONES THE HAWK DIDNT GET
Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 YEAH YOUR RIGHT PAL ONLY THE BEST THATS THE ONES THE HAWK DIDNT GET The hawks don't show any discrimination, they will take the best as well as the crap.So i guess that is that theory up in the air.Or have you evidence to suggest they only take the crap.????????????
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 They wont go after the fastest bird thats for sure there predators will take the stranglers and injured 1st do you have proof they only go after the best?
ally mac Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 any way if a buzzard can out fly your racing pigeons it,s time to get faster pigeons. on the plus side of buzzards .you won,t get a sparrow hawk or a peregrine taking any of your birds with buzzards around as buzzard would steal what ever thy have caught I wish that was the case here pal. Buzzards are always in the air on the hills behind me, never seems to stip either the sparrrow hawk or the peregrine. I was getting hammered by both at the start of the year but things have quietened down now thankfully. Al.
shotgun tim Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 i have buzzards on my shoot that hunt and kill full grown phesants
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 i have buzzards on my shoot that hunt and kill full grown phesants never film one taking a fit healthy pheasant then il believe you and pheasants are not indigenous to this country get rid of the pheasants gamekeepers are the worst they destroy all the wild life for the sake of few silly pheasants
magpie Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 It's nothing for us to have six or seven buzzards circling above our loft in Dorset and, although they make the birds a bit edgy, I have never seen them actually attack any pigeons. But like ally mac said, they don't stop the sparrowhawks and peregrines from playing havoc at various times of the year.
blaz Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 i have buzzards on my shoot that hunt and kill full grown phesants i know for a fact that buzzards will kill pheasants . now with the law your game keepers are not supposed to kill them . again the keepers look out for the young pheasants and protecting them is part of their job whither it be mink fox or raptors. their job still needs to be done
Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 They wont go after the fastest bird thats for sure there predators will take the stranglers and injured 1st do you have proof they only go after the best? That is crap, the peregrine targets a batch and selects it prey when at striking distance pure chance as to what it gets. The sparrow hawk targets by stealth and usually targets birds sitting on the loft once again pure chance as to what it gets.I know personally fanciers that have lost gold award winners to peregrines and myself have lost birds that i timed as young birds from the ybn to sparrow hawks of the loft.So the theory they only take the weak and injured is nonsense.Since you are being so honest and having your opinion on here why don't you be so open as to tell us all who you are and what club you actually fly in.

Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 ok then vince tell me what club your in and who you fly as kind of self explanatory is it not, it is there in front of you :-/ :-/.I would suggest if you don't have the bottle to tell us who you are and what club you are in,then everybody on this site should re frame from answering any further posts by yourself. And further more if you do not we will all no you are at the madam for sure. :-/ :-/ :-/
