Guest Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Song Birds are an integral part of the control of bugs and creepy crawlies for gardeners. With the ever decreasing numbers of these birds, gardeners (and also farmers) will have to revert back to pesticides for control. The RSPB will then try to hoodwink the gullible public that this is the reason for the decline in these birds, as they have in the past. This is what we are up against Folks, a "society" that will never admit that the problem lies firmly at their feet for their interference with Nature. Therefore I have posted the "PETITION" on many of the Gardening Forums. ;)
chickadee Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Hope this is ok : http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SAPBSBS/ please sign the above petion and send it to all your contacts in your email address book 117 so far, you would think at least we would get more than that, just from this site alone. Guest Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Chick, there are 5,709 members on this forum, many have joined never to be seen again. What members have to realise is that NO ONE INDIVIDUAL is heading this campaign, we are ALL equal in the quest to Save and Protect British Song Birds. This should be the thinking of each and every one of us. The membership of this forum equates to roughly 15% of the annual membership off the RPRA and a mere drop in the ocean of the population of Great Britain. The aim of this Society, and the other campaigns set up, is to make aware, and hopefully gain the support of the General Public.

Guest bristolkev Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 is this better....... Taken from todays Birmingham Post Peregrines under attack in West Midlands Crimes against peregrines are on the rise and some of the most gruesome cases have taken place in the West Midlands, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) claims. The welfare charity has been inundated with reports of birds being poisoned, trapped and shot, and of their chicks being taken from the nest. This year is shaping up to be one of the worst on record for crimes against peregrines, according to the charity, with 50 incidents reported in the UK and more waiting to be processed. The RSPB is now urging the Government to add peregrines to its list of priority species for wildlife crime enforcement. In Walsall in February, a racing pigeon was found with a pill capsule taped to its leg. A tip-off that some pigeon fanciers in the area were targeting peregrines led to the capsule being sent for tests. Results showed it had been filled with the banned pesticide Aldicarb. In 2008, a peregrine was poisoned by Aldicarb near Tamworth. Anybody with information should contact West Midlands Police on 0845 113 5000. In March, a peregrine crash-landed in a back garden near Lichfield with its leg caught in a spring trap. It later died of its injuries. A search of nearby quarries by RSPB officers found three more illegally-set traps on a ledge used by peregrines. The traps had been covered with soil to hide them. Anyone with information is asked to contact WPC Ellie Sewell, Wildlife Crime Officer with Staffordshire Police, on 0300 123 4455. To sign the RSPB’s on-line pledge to end the illegal killing of birds of prey, visit rspb.org.uk/birdsofprey ingnore PM m8 8)
pjc Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 was the pigeon rung? If not how do they know it was a racing pigeon and not a ferral pigeon, tumbler, tipler etc etc?
frank-123 Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 how did they know it was a racing pigeon or a pigeon fancier and why would you tie a pill to its leg the peregrines would not eat a leg when they are finished eating the carcass i gues the pill would have been tossed overboard
pjc Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 also 90% of there nest sites have camera's so how did somebody set traps?
Guest bristolkev Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 publicity stunt...because they problay know what we have in motion....maybe they`re getting abit worried that the public will take our side.

OLDYELLOW Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 Re: Save And Protect British Song Bird Society By burocrat basher in Talking Point Songbird Petition. I am not sure you can put all the blame on these Predators,40 or 50 years ago these Predators were around and the Song Bird Population was thriving.I think perhaps this problem is a lot more complex than you yourself and the RSPB is making of it.I wonder whether the Cuckoo issue is because of the wet Springs we have been having in recent years and their Biological/Genetic part of their Brain has chipped in and said dont go there its a waste of time.Apparantly they are still in France and as the Bird flies from Africa its not that much further to the UK. I also dont think the RSPB is correct in saying Modern Farming Methods and Sprays have affected Birds because there are areas in say South West England that engage in Pastoral Farming as has been practiced for Hundreds of years and their Song Bird numbers have fallen at the same rate as Arable areas. A combination of Magpies,Birds of Prey,Cats, wet Springs,Air Pollution by Internal Combustion Engines [ I would like to see a comparison of the number of Cars and the decline of Birds over the last 50 years, remember the canaries did'nt like the Carbon Monoxide in the Coal Mines] and perhaps some changes in Agriculture are all worthy culprits in this disaster. ===============================
