The problem is that we Fanciers have plenty to say on this Forum, in the Clubs and when we talk to each other but will not get down to organising ourselves properly.

I don't think it is any good trying to get signitures at Shows or through adverts in the Press, because there will never be enough people who will put themseves to the trouble of actually signing. And it is always going to be hard to find people who will do the administration side of it. It is called apathy.

The RSPB are loving this, because that are able to carry on doing just as they like. It is ridiculous to think that an unelected organisation like them can wield as much influence as they do. The fact that they can introduce the White Tailed Eagle into Britain and refuse to allow the European Eagle Owl to live here is an example of what they are able to do. Sooner or later they will find a way to have legislation approved to make it very costly if anyone who dares to try to protect their pets or stock from these hooked faced devils.

I think we should find a way of getting all Pigeon Fanciers to back a campaign to oppose what they are doing, and a petition would be a good start. There is a ready made data base in the Unions that would allow us to approach all the Pigeon Fanciers in the U.K. But we have to stop the yaking and get on with it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am getting sick of all this talk that just goes on and on. Action speaks louder than words.

Morning , we have all had our say about BOP , micheal is send ing a letter and i am trying to get started with a web site but it will take a wee while to get it running again , It is not the RSPB we have to petition as it is not just  a pigeon problem ,we must look at the bigger picture and take off the pigeon hat or we wont get anything done about it at all .It will take a long time to get the support of the public not just fanciers .If you want to start a petition if it is only fanciers who sign it you will be beat before you start , sorry to tell you that .It is parliment who we need to get to look at the act and change it accordinaly to protect all birds not just pigeons. When a pigeon is attacked and come home injured take a picture and date it and say the area ,as the more we can get information the better we can address the problem and pin point which areas are being more effected than others . 98% of the public don't give a toss about our pigeons, they see them as flying

rats .i know it's harsh but i have said it before stop all the charity money we

denate ,maybe they will sit up and take notice, and letter them all and tell them

why and get them to contact their mp , i know the charities would suffer but

drastic measures call for drastic steps.the club iam in give to at least 4 charities. :B :B

i think it needs something  more high profile doing,ie a few hundred pigeon fanciers marching on no10 and demanding action from mr brown.  :-/ :-/

Avril, you are right of course. But we have to start somewhere, and rather than try to become overly ambitious to soon, I think a petition would help. To start with, the Unions do precious little about this problem. They seem to be leaving it to anybody that is willing to do it.

Perhaps we ought examine the role of the Unions because they should be doing a lot more than acting as a clearing house for strays.

I will try to go along with anything you have in mind, but I am very cautious about the comittment of the rank and file Pigeon Fanciers. Most seem to be very good at talking about the problem but I do not see much depth of determination in the actions up to now.

I have been writing to the RSBP and have managed to get them to show just how arrogant they really are, but they are also clever. The way that they have used the Red Kites, in the North East, as positive publicity is a recent example of how they can exploit the situation to gain Public suport. And the pubility they have used to gain admiration for the Perigrine Falcon, has been very successful. We have a steep hill to climb, and I think we should climb it one step at a time.

No-one will be able to get anywhere if they try to lead the Pigeon Fanciers by the nose. The trick is to persuade them to get up off their behinds and start by putting themselves out and actually making an effort to sign a piece of paper. Not some of them but all of them.

to do anything we need mp,s on our side.

also people in power.

this will die an early death unless we have that type of people on our side.

mass protests are needed around the uk .

nothing will be done unless action is taken...we can all say this and that and sign this and that...but what is needed is the above!.

To be honest, I can not see anything changing. I have noticed that when there are positions to be taken in the Club or Fed most members study their feet. When the nominations are safely over, they will resurface. But if it is a question of shouting the odds, there are plenty willing to do that.

Again the silence is deafening. I notice yet again, there are plenty out there who have differant ideas to the ones that are being put forward by those who are willing to try to do something. But there is hardly any suport for the proposals offered. I think the RSPB must have infiltrated our ranks because there is a great job being done in terms of disruption.
