Guest dogeon Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 you can get them from counrty wide and most farming suppliers they do scare the pigeons at first but they do get use to it
brianm Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 does anybody know why eagle owls are always for sale? because folk buy them thinking that they have the owl from harry potter, that is until it foots you and you realise you have a bird weighing in around the 4lb mark with a grip like a vice and talons 4inches long attached to your anatomy,, lol
THE FIFER Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 does any one know where you can get the big plastic eagle owl? i am thinking of putting one on the roof to keep the hawks away? not sure what the pigeons will think though? probably at some of the large garden centres

brianm Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 i dont think there is much you can do mate . sparrowhawks have hearts the size of lions , ive flown a few and they will think nothing of going after woodpigions that are maybe 4 times their own size
frank-123 Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 glass fish tank with a bird in it heard thats quite good for getting squashed sparrowhawks or peregrine's never tried it myself

EAGLEOWL Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 mainly the female sparrowhawk kills pigeons be it woodpigeon or racing pigeon its the quality and richness of food its after ,yes ive seen them kill magpies before ive seen them catch young rabbits.it always seems to be the female who attacks the larger birds and the male the little birds, you only have to work out how many birds a pair will kill each season and you wonder why we have no songbirds about thats not including the 12,000 pairs peregrines on these shores
