We don't race YBs, but, I am aware that many Darkened YBs are still on their 2nd/3rd flights in early Sept, how do fanciers that race the Dark system, ensure that all 10 flights are moulted through, so that their yearlings are still carrying nest flights?

All you can do is give them your 100% attention. At this time you cant afford to have any setbacks whatsoever so keeping them clean and healthy is the number one priority. Mine are only let out once a week for a bath, plenty of rest and good grub.

What if you are on an allotment and don't have electricity, how do you make sure they moult then?

No need to put lights on, in fact that will slow the process down. Just good clean corn and water and plenty of rest and all will cast their end flight by mid december. Never had one that hasn't.

We give a good moulting mix, and plenty of linseed - plenty of rest, and baths when they want them.

We are on allotments, so lighting is out of the question, but I wouldn't use them either, I would have thought that would slow the moult down.

Ours always have a good moult and I don't think we have ever had them hold flights into the following year

where do you get and how do you use butter milk?

just out the super market,, not do the birds any harm ,probably more good [as i have seen :)] its a yogurt type tub,, about 80p , a couple of tablespoons in their water , re-freshed every day, as it tends to sink to the bottom of the drinker after a while ,,,tried it last year for te first time , due to buying some cocks that werereally on darkness too long [hadnt moulted a flight after last yb race, these birds fully moulted ,, well in to jan,, but completed a beautifull moult , [sometimes throwing 2 flights at a time with a third flight  just  half way up :)
