thunderboult Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Hi Guys, I let my young birds (24) out at 11:40 am today and none except three have come back. Does anybody have any ideas of what could have happended to them. I just feel like we have just wasted 6 months of nothing. is this the first time they been out? also a couple of welsh organisations were racing today from newbury and littlehampton and they had a funny race(although it was'nt funny for most) with very erratic returns and birds doing between 30-45 mph when they should have been doing about 50-60.
Okitsme Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 Thanks. Its really upsetting. I saw them circle once in the distance and when the time went on I thought they were training hard today but three hours later I started getting worried. If they dont come back I am wiped out for the youngbird season. :-/
just ask me Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 how young were they mate u will be surprised what u will get back over the next few days best of luck with it try not to get too down we only had a thread here few weeks back with the same thing if im right within 2 days he had most of them back best of luck
Okitsme Posted June 5, 2009 Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 is this the first time they been out? No, they been ranging for about a month now. Thats why I dont understand it.
jimmy white Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 when yb,s become flying fit,, their energy sometimes outwits their brains,, , these yb,s will probably have got mixed up with trainers , or travelled to far "out of range" i would say its a good sign you got three back,, ill bet you near get them all back to-morrow [i certainly hope so] ,, natures way of equalizing their energy and brains, most of these yb,s will be all the better for this , much harder to loose in future ,, good luck in getting good returns tomorrow, i sincerely hope you do
Babybird Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 let us know how you get on,hope they come home
flyingteessider Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 i bet you dont sleep tonight hope you get them back
taffacre Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Rhondda valley fed were at Newbury today and they took a hammering, leading birds taking 2 30 minutes for only 90 miles, some fanciers not clocking until after 3hrs,very erratic returns, loads missing, dont know if this is anywhere near you, best of luck hope you get them back.
Guest GRIZZLE GRAHAM Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 HELLO MATE, I KNOW ITS A WORRYING TIME FOR YOU,BUT I HAVE HAD THAT HAPPEN BEFORE,LUCKILY I GOT MOST OF THEM BACK, OVER ABOUT A WEEK.IF YOURS WORK BACK LIKE MINE DID, GIVE THEM TIME TO RECOVER FROM THE EXPERIENCE, THE ONLY POSITIVE THING IS THEY USUALLY LEARN HELL OF A LOT FROM IT.HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN ROAMING ?YOUNG BIRDS JUST LOVE TO FLY,UNLESS THEY HAVE GONE A VERY LONG WAY, I FEEL THEY WILL BE BACK.THEY GET IN WITH TRAINING BATCHES, WHEN THE TRAINING BATCHES ARRIVE HOME, YOUR BIRDS WILL BE THINKING, NOW WHERE ARE WE. REGARDS GRAHAM.
thunderboult Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Hi Guys, I let my young birds (24) out at 11:40 am today and none except three have come back. Does anybody have any ideas of what could have happended to them. I just feel like we have just wasted 6 months of nothing. i was told when i first started out never to put yb's out before 4 o'clock until they've ranged and had a few tosses , the reason being they know at half eleven in the morning that they got most of the day to go off exploring and the further they go the more that can go wrong, but when you put them out after 4 they know the sun is on it's way down and won't go so far away from the loft.
duncandoo Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 i have always had my young birds out with my old birds they hold them to the loft never had a flyaway touch wood
Guest vining45 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 mine done the same only dropped 6 /43 most back next day but some took a few days to return hope u get yours back tomrrow at least they can get a drink now the weather turning
Okitsme Posted June 6, 2009 Author Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hi Guys, Thanks for the support. I have a total of 6 back now. Only 18 to go.
Guest Hjaltland Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hi Guys, Thanks for the support. I have a total of 6 back now. Only 18 to go. I've had this happen to me and I certainly lost a few but most worked their way back over a week. Those which do come back will be all the harder to lose. All the best with your yb's.
Mixxy Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 nearly full moon in sky with the sun today and will be tomorrow, watch the races today.should never let birds rang for a month without training.
Guest IB Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 I'm sure most will work back OK. Problem could simply be down to joining a batch of racers or trainers. Think most are wary of letting their YBs out on racedays for that reason.
Guest numpty01 Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 i have 6youngsters on house and loft overnight and at moment one on landing board they belong to someone and when one goes in we will know ..they are not local birds
pjc Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 twice in the last couple of weeks i've been a 3rd of the youngbirds missing at night but all have worked back. Because a lot of these are new birds i hope its a sign they have the intelligence to find there own way back which will stand them in good stead latter!
