Craig05 Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Took the ybs for their first toss on Tuesday, 10 miles in 19 minutes, was very pleased with them so packed them all in the basket again yesterday and took them to the same place. not sure what happend but got 2 back after 21 minutes and then nothing more for an hour and a half (10 together) The rest dropped in all day with the last arriving home just before dark last night. after about 45 minutes of waiting and only 2 birds back in the loft, i felt physically sick when i started thinking i had lost them all. anyway, all back and not looking too sorry for themselves today. How long would you leave it before taking them out again
BLACK W F Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 leave untill monday thats what i do as i do not train y/bs on fridays or weekends
boxer Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 i find once u start with youngbirds keep them going as much as u can
pigeonpete Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Well done on getting them all back, you have done well, they must have got split by a hawk or bad weather? or gone off ranging a bit further? I would take them again monday, weather permitting. It would have done them good coming back on there own. So a nice lesson for them.
thunderboult Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 they may have jusy got in with somebody else's birds, how did the birds look when they returned(were they edgy/looking frightened) the fact you got them all back ok says to me they may have been with somebody else's birds, it will do them good if that was the case as it's teaching them to brake from other birds.
Craig05 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 The first two back were bouncing around on the landing board, the batch of 10 that arrived after an hour and a half were soaked, as the rain started falling hard about 5 minutes before they arrived and the rest looked very tired as they arrived, but as i said they look happy enough again this morning
Guest Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Looks like they got messed about by the weather, not much you can do about that but they'll be all the wiser for the experience gained. Give them a lazy weekend even if they don't need it.
