Newbie2020 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I trained my birds today from 40 miles and they took 1h and 15 mins to come home, they circled around the loft 3 times and then shot off again and continued to fly around the mountains for a further 1h and 5 mins!! They had so much energy they just didnt want to land. I cant work out if I am chessed off or pleased. They obviously didnt race to get back home, but then I think they must be in great condition to continue flying for the 2hrs and 20 mins that they did. When they landed they trapped immediately when called, BUT NOT WHEN CALLED ON RETURN FROM TRAINING. I am concerned however the same might happen next saturday on race day. I have given them half food tonight and will take them again tomorrow and see what happens.
No 1 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Half rations after all that work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, if they fly like that after a chuck, I would not bother putting them in a trainer, fly from loft, you are making hard work for your self taking them training, if you want to carry on training/educating, give them a loft fly before the trainer, let them burn a bit of energy off first.
edwards Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 me own were tossed a few miles up the road and didn drop till after an hour them selfs it wont be long till they learn the game and remember an ounce a day will keep the bad trappers away :)
Newbie2020 Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 Will have to do that in future. Is this generally a good sign and shows they must be healthy and enjoying there flying?
Guest blaz hear Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 a wee thing to remember if you are going 40 mile in a car you dont fill it with petrol now do you.
No 1 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Yes it shows the birds are in good health, however, they are out of control.
Guest Owen Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I thought the purpose of training was to teach them the whole thing, which includes trapping. A few years ago I did a similar thing. Then the birds went to a race, Nantwich. They came home from the race and were lounging about on the lawn after a bath. They took off without any panic and did a couple of slow circuits and flew off. I lost ten that day. All good pigeons. These days I will not allow them to mess about. Its home before me and in they go. Anybody who decides to hang about is not fed at all. They soon get the hang of it.
Newbie2020 Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 These birds have now been tossed 18 times in total! They havent done this before. Normally they arrive land, and straight in! I cant understand what changed today. They were fed 1oz each yesterday as they are everyday yet they were still intent on flying for another hour after arriving? I cant work it out!
