rasbull Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 I currently have Young Bird Sickness and what a terrible thing it is to. I have treated them via the following means so far: - Adenosan (currently taking), Soda Crytals to empty the crop, charcoal tablet and live yoghurt. I also currently have Coxoid in the water for any secondary cocci infection. I developed the illness last Thursday but the birds droppings are still very watery and a couple have real dark green slim like droppings. The sickness has stopped although they still appear to be puffed up and lacking energy/enthusiasm. How long does it usually take for the birds to regain full health? They have improved but not as much as I expected. Any comments welcome.
Guest Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 wen i have it i get the droppings tested after!! if its ok just build them up with electrolytes and good grub till the food digests quick again and they become reponsive!! i say 2 weeks!!they will be good as new!!

kots1 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 with me it would be about 10 seconds and that it cured.

rasbull Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Hiya mate, the crops emptied after the soda crytals and then they had the charcoal tabs. I fed them coditioner for the first 3 days and today fed them some breed and wean. Its not been a week yet mind. I have lost 2 however, they lost serious weight. I have concerns over 5 or 6 others but the others seem to be on the mend if somewhat slow progress.
rasbull Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Thats all very well but when the whole 50 young birds have it, it will be quicker to cure it than to kill them all ;-)
edwards Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 i feel so sorry for ye mate i really do i hope you get them back on track but i would love to know that 10 second cure on the thread?
kots1 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 would that 10 second cure be the bin?your so right edward how did you guess only thing for it mate.
edwards Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 well jesus ill go tell me cousin nigel he should have put his 10th open hen and 4th open hen he should of put them in the bin last year?
rasbull Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 I dont believe its just weak pigeons that get this terrible illness, my pigeons could not have been healthier, cleaner, fitter just 24 hours prior to them showing the signs of it! Infact they exercised around the loft for 2 hours the day before when exercising! So I agree to say kill them is somewhat a little crazy. I am all for culling weak/unhealthy youngsters but this type of thing is completely different.
kots1 Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 well jesus ill go tell me cousin nigel he should have put his 10th open hen and 4th open hen he should of put them in the bin last year?that maybe so but the cycle goes on you sort them so you think then they breed birds with the same fekin thing next year and so it goes on they carrie it and pass it on, 10 seconds to end the cycle, story ended, think some of you guys just love buying stuff for the sicko,s.. got better things to waste money on..

rasbull Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Sorry mate, I dont agree with what your saying. My team of youngsters were healthy and only had been vaccinated for the PMV as required. They had been treated for cocci, canker and worms and that is it! No other vaccines, nothing! They went down like a tonne of bricks and had been in super condition just 24 hours before!

allenyeates Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 I personally use builders lime in the water for 2 days,(fill up a plastic bucket with water the night before and put in 2 good splashes of lime powder) Never had YBs but if any look offy I use the above. Also get 1/2 heads or more of elderberries soak them and use in drinkers. Biggest hit of vit c on market and fantastic for respirotry, (p.m. for mix etc). Sambucus Nigra The medicene tree..........! All challenges on above welcome, but remember you CAN NOT beat nature, we are traveller family and still use some of the old recipes for health etc ourselves
