pigeon princess Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Hi there can my young birds go out today its very overcast with a little drizzle now and again or should they stay in today thanks
Novice Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Personally I would put them back out today. If you have time to spend with them allow them a bath infront of the loft but try to be there while they bathe as they do not fly very well when wet. They should take the bath easily given the weather conditions.

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Hi there can my young birds go out today its very overcast with a little drizzle now and again or should they stay in today thanks I try to put ours out in the rain as much as possible, not torrential rain though but they stay around the loft more if it is wet especially when they are young.
Tony C Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Your best keeping them in during thunderstorms and/or strong winds. You'll notice having them out whilst raining they'll lay there spreading a wing and their tail feathers out quite enjoying it. The other time to keep them in is on a Saturday whilst other around you are waiting for their race pigeons.
blackdog Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 also make sure there hungry or they will bath in the rain and not want to come in

Guest Owen Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Once you have started to let them out it is good to keep it up. The exceptions are, heavy rain, windy conditions and when there are birds racing. And as far as training them to go in when you need them to do is concerned, simple, just do not feed the ones that are last in. I use a clicker to tell them when they are going to be fed, and I deliberatley deprive, the slow to go in, ones from food. They soon get the message. I get them tame by feeding them peanuts from my hand. If you do that, try to keep each bird down to 2 peanuts to avoid them getting too fat.
