Was wondering, once the selection of next seasons team, do you cull/give away all other birds, or do you keep some surplus birds?

I personally try and have only the required number of cocks needed, however I always allow for a few surplus hens, and these are kept in the young teams section. I find they help bring the youngsters along.

cull the nohopers wouldn't give something away I thought was crap and then keep the hens. Always try and have one or two hens extra in case I loose a hen racing

I always look at it that a spare pigeon or two can become valuable even if not raced.

Personally I like to keep my young bird loft just for young birds. I like to see which one ventures out of the loft first, first one to find its way in the bath, first one to make the loft roof, first one to fly and the likes.

I always try to keep only the birds worth keeping and they have to have a purpose in the loft, i never keep birds just to keep them and have them do nothing but sit and wait because you might have use for them later on, one might say that keeping extra hens to help wean youngsters is good, i don´t do it but thats just me, plus i have found that the youngsters can easily do it on thier own without the help of feeder hens.

lets say i have selected down to 8 cocks and 10 hens, i do not go and find 2 more cocks to keep, i find 2 more hens to get rid of.
