Ronnie Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 my best cock scored again last week from 349 mile but i was really hoping to get him to 500 mile again this year but he is moulting his primarys and currently on his 3rd when should i lay him off from racing in regards to the moult he is only a 2year old and to be hohnest is to good to be thrown away through my inexperience so any advice is greatly appreciated.
pjc Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 just need to ask yourself some question. how well has he scored? has he bred anything of significance? can he be replaced, do you have his parents? have you other birds doing equaly as well?
Ronnie Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 1.. scored very well over the water only bird on the night from niort as yearling 10th middlewich two bird open as a yearling 4th club from lessay 1st club 4th fed from fourgeres plus a few other minor club cards inland. 2.took two youngsters last year hen had her first race yesterday but way behind 122miler in prep for next week .His son topped the club by 10 mins on a really hardrace (his dad was right behind him) when his dad took 4th lessay he was there first but wouldnt trap.he also took 7th middlewich two bird open as a youngster 3 lost both his parents when i moved house and someone let all my birds out. 4 nothing doing as well over the water but inland ive a couple of good cocks. i only have a team of 7 cocks and 12 hens it started of as 9 cocks but lost two . i am thinking of laying him of after next week but depends how he comes i suppose
greenlands Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 There's never an answer to that sort of question, keep him going ? you loss him.Stop him and the hawks take him.A friend of mine and one of the best fanciers in the federation I fly in done exactly that last week, stopped his best hen two days later she didn't return from flying round the loft. It's a question (IMO) that you'll have to answer for youself,do you keep them to race or there's next year and move a few eggs off him.Even though he's a good bird he might never breed anything that's any good. It's scrat your head time ???????????,good luck with your choice. Lindsay.
red1chq3 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 As they say there not ornements, BUT, I personally in our position would stop him and try to build a team around this cock, if neccessary keep him as a prisinor if you have an avary, only what i would do, regards.
pjc Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 If you only have a small team and has already shown is can produce then stop him, so many times you hear fanciers say they sent a bird 1 to many times!
Ronnie Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 thanks guys.Just showed him to a good fancier round here and he say's race him and put the house on him he is in that good condition but he also said if it was his bird he would put him in the stock loft after this race because he has nothing to prove.Well i think i will send him this one then lay him off. Thanks for the advice guy's
