andrecrock Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Hi guys!!!! Could i ask a bit of advice, When pairing up stock birds that hasent been together,is there any need to shut the hen in one half of the box for a while so the 2 can get use to each other first or pop them together and shut them up?I was just wondering if the 1st method would relieve a bit off stress on the hen? andrecrock

pearse1888 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 stick them in together and put a nest bowel in the corner upside down so the hen can stand up on it if the cock is to rough
Guest Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 how longwould you leave them in the box together for
andrecrock Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 Last year i shut them up together for a day and one by one opend the boxes up and all was fine,i just wonderd if "showing" the hen first would be better.
Guest IB Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I think the widowhood style nest fronts are brilliant at pairing up time. They make the box real versatile. I take it in stages, I lock up the hens in their half of their box (with a brick in one corner) then watch to see if they are taking OK - they should both start sweeping towrds each other more or less straight away. Then after about 15/20 minutes, one pair at a time, let them run together the full length of the box, but still watch to see the cock doesn't get out of hand (I'll put the box back on half and half) and move on to the next pair... its a long day.
