robbie1 Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 KENT COMBINE BIRDS LIBERATED AT 10AM TODAY SUNDAY THE 7TH FROM LE MANS IN A LIGHT SOUTH WIND
Guest Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Probably going to upset you on this one but being the club covers the whole country wouldnt it be more fairer if the racepoints were more central you cant go any further than St Nazaire otherwise it would be a lib at sea I had pretty decent result in open and sec when i raced from there but still think it is not the fairest of racepoints Magpie fair comment, they will get a couple hours more fly. Rose I'm not to bothered, though if you want allround fairness I think you need to liberate more to the west. What I would like to see is Tours instead of this race point, gives me 300 mile, I would also like to see Saintes in two weeks ideal prior to Tarbes, though I appreciate maybe too far for the Northern flyers
magpie Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Agree with you Rose that central is the fairest all round and for me that is still as it used to be ie Rennes, Nantes, Saintes, Pau. If you draw a North-South line down through the Cherbourg Peninsula that is about as fair to everyone as you can get. I don't like St Nazaire and some fanciers around here won't send there, but I still think Alencon is not a good alternative. Couple of weeks ago with the CSCFC there was an east wind when we were at St Nazaire and we had a very difficult race with patchy returns and not many doing over 1,000 ypm while on the same morning the BICC winner from Saran was here in Dorchester doing 1600ypm. That must tell us something about the racepoint. My guess is the CSCFC birds were pushed out over the sea and went west of Lands End because one of ours - a three year old hen which scored twice from 500 miles last season - was reported in North Wales. Fortunately a very kind Welsh fancier gave her a couple of days to recover, took her to South Wales to release her and she made it home under her own steam in a couple of hours to race another day.

Yes I would agree a line down through cherbourg is fine, I would like to see a 300/400 race prior to Tarbes, maybe could be the right option if we fly Tarbes later with the International, in fact would love to see the NFC at DAX and Tarbes in the Internationals. No problem with going with BICC having them if they had a marking station at Bristol say or down towards Exeter but I think it unreasonable to be called British when in effect it caters for London and the south east
