Astropigeon Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 I have no idea how to train a racing pigeon. I still don't have a loft and I just wanna be informed for the future. I could really use some different opinions.
Peckedhen Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Have a look on this site Astropigeon. It might give you some ideas to start with. http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/showthread.php?t=8046
Guest jason Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 you put your pigeons in a basket and take them away from the loft starting around 2 miles and let them go ,they fly back to your loft thus getting exercise you keep increasing the distance you take them i sometimes take mine 60 miles.
bewted Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 jason,go carefull, astropigeon is only 11 yrs old,,,,ted ps,need to explain in more detail to understand things!!!
Guest jason Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 astropigeon, this is what i do , lets say i have 30 young birds, just weaned from their parents at 25 days old. They cant fly, i put them in the young bird loft for 24 hours to get used to living there, then every morning and afternoon i open loft doors and the young pigeons come out and walk about (remember they cant fly yet) i do this for about an hour every morning and afternoon after the hour i feed them in the loft while whistling , this teaches the birds that when you whistle , its feeding time. then after a week they will start to fly , first to loft roof, then house roof then after a few days they're gone , they will take off and you won't see them for a while :-/ its worrying but eventually they should come home then you whistle and they should go in the loft for somthing to eat when they've been doing this for about a month you start basket training as i mentioned above. hope this is better?
hooky Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 little buddy i would not be to concerned about training birds as of yet. look into the health part of them first then . study what to feed them ect. then how to manage the loft ,then get someone to draw up plans for a nice little loft that will siut your needs and house a few birds. And get a pair of birds. do not go out and get the best pigons you can find and do Not over crowd your loft.get above average birds play about with those when you think you have them healthy and happy go purchase a few decent birds.at least that way if you can do reasonably good in managing half handy birds imagine the possibilities that would happen when you get good ones???
ribble Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 its no good training to get them fit.they must be fit before you train.....
schouwman71 Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 you have hit the nail on the head ribble,i agree with you 100%.
Diamond dave Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Hi Astro How r u doin? Do you have your eye on some pigeons? Can you please explain "Cry me a dogs bone, build me a bowl so I can eat a crazy dog" ????????
Guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 and dont fall into the trap that because you see others trainging that you have to train
