jimmy white Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 i think the birds racing north rd and birds racing south rd would be racing at differant heights ie opposite winds, but theres a lot more to it than that as theres feds racing e to w and vica versa, would it not be possible to take turns ,ie week about, just a thought on these difficult times.[, things may even change yet, hope not]
mealybar Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I've never seen birds turn when flocks come nearabouts. As jimmy says north are at a different height to south, and I dont think a bird would do a 180 turn to break one flock to join another. Where I think clashing will occur is when flocks are going more or less the same way, just different distances or variations at the end of the route. Clashing at the liberation site I think is a seperate issue, as these birds havent yet got their bearings and are looking to tag on to something to get them going. One thing for sure 10 or 15 mins between libs aint enough :-/
THE FIFER Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 just look at the map above, and that does not have the scottish racing on it or the north roaders, think about it, fill in scotland with birds flying from south to north and the north roaders coming south, u wont see nothing for lines,
frank-123 Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 bruno i watched the liberation from ripon i think 2002 of lanrkshire federation so after the lib i sat down to have my lbreakfast some 20 mins later a batch of 300-400 birds returned then carried on flying around ripon race course for 50 mins i phoned my mate to let him know what had happend they had the winners doing a great time then big gaps with plenty missing that night weather that day at the race point great morning sunshine no wind & could see for miles
frank-123 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 why does say north roaders not just fly the south route no east to west or west to east allowed only south routes allowed corridors made east central and west west of scotland ,cumbria, liverpool, wales devon must fly the west corridor southhampton, birmingham yorkshire manchester must fly cental route london, hull, newcastle east coast of scotland fly east route i think its a bit of commonsense but a lot of hard work to get the corridors correct and people will say we have always flown this route change is needed to help our birds what do you think?
THE FIFER Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 HOW WILL ORGANISATIONS DOWN SOUTH GET DISTANCE FLYING SOUTH ROAD??? ITS NOT JUST A CASE OF FANCIERS DOWN SOUTH FLYING FROM THE NORTH AND ONES FROM UP NORTH FLYING FROM THE SOUTH, ITS THE LOTS AND LOTS OF FANCIERS FROM INBETWEEN, FLYING FROM THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH,
frank-123 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 does the l/secc not fly south route from france? what iam trying to say is every pigeon in the uk should be on south route
Guest slugmonkey Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 You guys DEFINATLY have a lot of traffic on race day, we do run into the same situation although not as large of numbers we don't have the participitation you fellows do though it seems to me that you should have somebody in your governing body try to group releases together by where they are going so that you send birds from same geographical areas to same release points and and eliminate turning one flock into another .
THE FIFER Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 does the l/secc not fly south route from france? what iam trying to say is every pigeon in the uk should be on south route HOW CAN PORTSMOUTH, PLYMOUTH, AND MANY OTHERS ETC FLY SOUTH IF THEY ARE NOT GETTING OVER THE CHANNEL?????
Guest shadow Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 The way things are going we may not get any racinf this year be it inland or not. Just hope and pray no dead water fowl are founf here and prove positive other wise I think DEFRA willslap a ban on straight away.
jimmy white Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 just look at the map above, and that does not have the scottish racing on it or the north roaders, think about it, fill in scotland with birds flying from south to north and the north roaders coming south, u wont see nothing for lines, YOUR BANG ON FIFER, YOUD NEED A BIG PENCIL :)

frank-123 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 clockman iam just new to this game do you think there is no clashing? why is there so many pigeons lost and never reported? why can a few birds make it in race time and others dont?
frank-123 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 HOW CAN PORTSMOUTH, PLYMOUTH, AND MANY OTHERS ETC FLY SOUTH IF THEY ARE NOT GETTING OVER THE CHANNEL????? who says there not getting over the channel?
Guest jason Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 now lets get something straight, first it is safe to say there will be no channel racing because of the avian flu, secondly, if your worried about clashing, don't send your birds, theres no rule that says you have to send.
frank-123 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 not scared of clashing just trying to come up with ideas to stop clashing anyone one who says ybs flying so close does not contribute to such heavy losses has there head up there rectum!!!!!! until the french& belgians say no racing sure 31st march is when the eu meeting takes place but people on this forum know already :
Pompey Mick Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 In 1983 I flew with the Solent fed after 7 west route races in which I lost two birds the Fed turned North, Clay Cross 163 mls 15 sent, 15 home , Selby 210 mls 16 sent, 13 home. next it was Sedgefield 250mls approx 9 sent, 9 home . Sedgefield 2, 10 sent, 9 home after that we went to Berwick 350mls 12 sent, 12 home the last OB race was Stonehaven 430 mls 15 sent, 14 home. All this with South road pigeons. I wasn't alone in the club with good returns. YB's were even better, first fed race Banbury 90mls 20 sent, 20 home. Leamington 100mls 20 sent, 20 home Clay Cross 163 mls 20 sent, 20 home. Selby 210mls 20 sent, 18 home back to Banbury , Leamington, Clay Cross 1 & Clay cross 2 In all of these races I entered 20 birds and got 20 home. I have gleaned these figures from my 1983 Year Book they are accurate. Where's the problem ? Grab what racing you can get wherever it is , don't make problems that don't exist. We were flying the North Route racing to Portsmouth on the South Coast and we coped O.K.
Guest Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 if your worried about clashing, don't send your birds Thought we were having a discussion on how to improve things?? :-/
mark Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 cherbourg is about 116 to my father in laws house whhich is just outside southampton

Guest Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Mick did you have to do extensive training north or did you just send em after training em south.
