WILL BE ON HARD FOOD, THE EASIEST WAY IS GIVING SMALL FOOD LIKE MAPLES WHEAT AND SMALL SEED, AND POUR IT INTO THEIR MOUTH WITH A BENT TEA SPOON, IF U WANT TO FEED LARGER LIKE BEANS THEN JUST OPEN THEIR MOUTH AND PLACE THEM INTO THEIR THROAT, I FIND THE FIRST IS BEST. U CAN EVEN WET THE FOOD WITH WARM WATER, THIS MAKES SURE THEY ARE ALSO GETTING WATER AND MAKES IT EASIER TO GO OVER,

GET THE CARTON OF BABY MILK AND SOME PELETS SOAK THE PELETS IN SOME OF MILK THIS WILL MAKE THE PELETS SOFT ROLL IN TO SMALL BALLS AND FEED TO YOUNG BIRDS THEY WILL THRIVE VERY QUICKLY,GIVE SOME HARD FOOD AS WELL, EVERY SO OFTEN WHEN FEEDING THE BIRDS DIP THERE BEAKS IN WATER THEY WILL DRINK .I DID THIS WITH 3 LAST YEAR IN OCT THEY ARE NOW FEEDING YOUNG OF THERE OWN.FEED THEM AT LEAST 3 TIMES A DAY JUST A LITTLE EACH TIME THE BIRDS WILL SOON LET YOU KNOW IF THEY ARE NOT GETTING ENOUGH AND MIND THE WATER.

The best way to hand rear young pigeons is with a syringe and a length of rubber tubing.Popping individual pieces of food in their mouths is very time consuming, with a syringe it literally takes a few seconds. You can buy special baby bird food to use with this method, but I used to use poultry growers crumbs made into a soup like consistancy.I have reared youngsters from 2 days of age with this method.

There a couple of web pages that illustrate this better than I can which I have seen through pigeonbasics.Speight has supplied a link in

The second link takes you to Frank Mosca's genetics page.At the bottom of this there are two links to hand rearing baby pigeons.

I agree with Beautyhomer regarding Hand Rearing.  We have done it on several occasions using a syringe and a small piece of tubing that's used in fish tanks.  We normally use pigeon pellets which have been ground in our coffee grinder then made into paste with warm water. In between shots of the paste we give a little warm water separately. An avian vet told me to add a little corn syrup to the water.  Three times a day sounds right

Hi....I use baby milk soaked on corn twice a week when breeding .its alot better than all what you can buy on the market for so called vits & mins...at least its tested and garanteed to carry all the ingredients that new born baby,s need to a healthy up bringing. and the youngsters are beautiful.

Jonboy,

just put a handfull of peas or beans in a cup, teaspoon of sugar pinch of salt, some warm water let them soak for 5-10 minutes, thenbump about 30 down each birds beak(you could bump 50-60 in them easy, but it could make them lazy),takes about 1 minute, then just spoon ,4-5 teaspoons water down after, simple as that,by 17 days old stop hand feeding, just put them in a place on their own with a drinker filled to the brim, and dip their beaks once or twice, then feed out just peas or beans in a trough, leave 20 minutes morning and night, then take away, some thick babies starve themselves for a couple of days, but will gorge in the end,but remember to dip their beaks,do not leave any food about after 20 minutes, they will follow you around like puppies come feeding time if you follow that simple rule.

And for christ`s sake do not worry about them not eating, leave them be,and remember  grit .

And while your at it,watch to find the leaders, not followers, you watch your babies,9out of 10 are crap,no matter what anyone tells you,see what you learn, write down first to find drinker 1st to feed, first to try for a perch,1st to go outside, write everything you see down, hen you will have made a good start, for sure.
