Diamond dave Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Just wondered if anyone can advise me if it is possible to hold up the moult in young birds not on darkness by letting them sit eggs - I believe this works with old birds so why not youngsters?
Tony C Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 Found it does help Dave twinned with a heavy training schedule. Found that I lost a greater % of cocks sitting though.
jimmy white Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 agree with tony , but if their not on darkness and you try and hold the moult at this time, they might be worse off for the later races, off course it also depends on when theve been bred, if their old enough to lay, they would probably have body moulted before the longer races
speedbird Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 they do tend to hold there feathers longer when paired up do think the ybs on darkness take some beating though
kaybee Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 just remember that they are only y/bs for a few races then old birds the rest of their lives. You should be trying to build a team of old birds that can compete every week for 10-12 weeks.
