antwerptom03 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Hey All, Noticed a few loose droppings and one bird vomitting today so i'm giving them a few days rest. They've been super so far since i started training, They beat me home on tosses, excercise very well around the loft and i still have 32 that i started with. The 90 degree heat with high humidity is rough on us all! While my birds are locked down should they get straight barley? Tom
Guest Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Tom I had that about three weeks ago, I put it down to the intense heat we are having on the west Coast, as a precaution, I treated them for canker for five days, and fed barley. they bounced back after 2/3 days
hooky Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 could be due to stress,,try giving them a dose of probac
antwerptom03 Posted July 28, 2006 Author Report Posted July 28, 2006 Hooky I give probios every other day all year. I found the two with the loose droppings this evening. They are the same two that spent the night in the sputnik as punishment for not trapping when i whistled the night before last. A nights rest may be just what they need. I sure hope this hot spell ends soon Tom
sapper756 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 OR POSSIBLY HUNGER IF THEY MISSED OUT ON THIER NIGHTS FEED DUE TO BEING LOCKED OUT.
hooky Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 fair enough it would definatly be stress then..tell me why would you not let the birds who didn't trap well enter the loft?i have allways givin the poor trappers just a few seeds once they do decide to come in that way they get to know that if they come in they will get feed..sort of makes sence to me other wise those who miss out don't know what the yare missing out on.
jimmy white Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 i would say def , stress related ,which can lead to yb sickness, and secondry infections, i would keep them in a few days, providing the loft is not overcrowded, feed them a very light feed ie depurative, with live yogurt in the water, then if no better in a few days, have there droppings tested and swabs taken,,hoping for the best it may just be stress and after a few days of peice and quiet might just do the trick, but keep the loft spotless and sprayed with something like virkon s, difficult when the birds are in, best of luck
stevebelbin Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Mine were doing the same a week and half ago, when the weather was at its hottest, so I put them on diet 2000 and put Adenosan on it for 7 days. Then probiotics one day and cider vinegar the next and they are back to normal now.
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Jimmy, I was once at a pigeon Moot and the BHW Vet David (Can't remember his last name) said never to put live yoghurt in water as it destroys the qualities as soon as it is added to water. When I used live yoghurt I always used to syringe it into the birds crop.
jimmy white Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 could be true linda as a lot of people mix it in with the grub, but syringing is making double sure [ it would have been david palmer, linda]
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 If they are stressed I sure woulnt give barley they hate it and wont eat it correctly it has been 100 + degrees here and mine are doing fine I am giving open loft and all they want to eat I locked them down last week and cut back feed to get their attention I havent noticed anything strange when its this hot a few ALWAYS get loose droppings I think its because they consume more water
antwerptom03 Posted July 28, 2006 Author Report Posted July 28, 2006 Mine seem to be fond of barley and no i don't starve them Tom
pender Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 if you syringe it in to the crop you will not be able to give water for few hours or you defeat the purpose.
antwerptom03 Posted August 2, 2006 Author Report Posted August 2, 2006 The birds seem to be just fine. I cut them back to 10 miles this evening because of the 95 degree heat and they were home in twelve and a 1/2 minutes. I have'nt noticed a bird vomiting since that one the other night. Slugmonkey i think you hit the wet dropping thing on the head. The droppings in the morning are perfect. after they've been out working for 45 minutes to 1 hr in the heat i notice the wet droppings. I'll Chalk that one up to my inexperience Tom
Tony C Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 I mix yoghurt with tap-water that has stood for 24 hours, this allows the chlorine in the tap water to dissipate. Think you'll find its the chlorine in the tap-water that renders yoghurt useless.
