Wiley Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 how does everybody go about selecting what they should pair with what?
jimmy white Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 i would pair distance to distance,,,sprint to sprint, but on occasions ive let the lot together , pair as they want [ love mating] it may sound daft but i beleive that some pigeons like some pigeons ,, just like humans you might fancy her and i might fancy her ;D ;D ;D the thing is i fancy them all nowadays ,but cant do nowt about it ;D ;D ;D,,,,,still can allways dream ;D,,,,,but seriously if you can strike on a really good breeding pair[ie, breeding winners] their worth there weight in gold

Wiley Posted December 19, 2006 Author Report Posted December 19, 2006 i agree to some extent wouldnt you pair a distance to a sprint! ive done this with great results in the combine :-/ I defaintly agree with the love matings though alf baker was a fan of this also
Roland Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 As long as they aren't too close related I let them choose their own, seem more content and ready that way .. mind will just put 6 of each sex together this season and see what comes from it.
birdman55678 Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I never let my breeders choose their own mate. My pumpers choose their own but never get to raise any of their own babies. Ed
Ronnie Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 Well ive kept my braspennings together but ive split the pair i bought in and put them with other braspennings.(My theory was if they were breeding winners they wouldnt have been sold.) then ive had to split my Van reets as all i have left is 3 cocks .So i then matched cocks to the number of hens and put them all in together to pick what they wanted .Luckily its all gone they way i wouldve chosen or close enough that i dont mind. Now i'm left with four Boshneid flyers birds wich are left together to settle hopefully they will pair and i will be all set

westy Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 'First Love' is what we call it so that means u let them pair up to who they want.
Guest Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 yeah, especially the young birds/yearlings.
